NEW HAMBURG ELIMINATES
PEE - WEES IN SEMI-FINALS
Pounding out 20 hits, six of
them by extra bases, and aided
by eight walks and four errors,
New Hamburg eliminated Sea -
forth in the WOAA Peewee 'C'
baseball semi-finals, overpower-
ing them Thursday night 20-3,
in the deciding game of the
best -of -three series. Both teams
had previously won their home
games. The third game was play-
ed in New Hamburg.
Ossie Mertin, New Hamburg,
was the hitting star of the game
with three singles, a double and
a home run in five times at bat.
Ile was closely followed by Tom
Pfaff, who had two singles and
two doubles in five tries. Gary
Stockie contributed a home run
for the winners, and Danny Mil-
ler's two hits were a triple and
a- double. Seaforth's five . hits
were all singles. Bill McGrath
and Brian Fischer each had
two.
' Paul Steffler went all the way
on the mound for New Ham-
burg and was never in serious
trouble, especially after his
teammates gave 'him an eight -
run lead in the second inning.
Fischer started for Seaforth
and was relieved by John Mc-
Lean in the second, but had
to return in the fourth to finish
the game, when McLean ran in-
to control trouble.
New Hamburg will now meet
Centralia for the WOAA "C"
championship, with the first
game played in New Hamburg
on Tuesday and the return
game in Centralia next Satur-
day.
