Observes 102nd
Anniversary
The 102nd anniversary serv-
ices of St. John's Anglican
Church, Brussels, on Sunday
were marked by . a service of
consecration for the building.
The congregation of the church
has overcome the disaster of
having the building and all its
furnishings destroyed by fire
several years ago. The rebuild-.
ing has been done with the
help of much voluntary labor.
Now the church is completely
furnished.
Last year's anniversary saw
the. ceremony of _burning the
mortgage. This year's annivers-
ary was celebrated with the
solemn service of consecration,
The rector, Rev. H. L. Jen-
nings, rural dean, was in
charge of the morning service.
The preacher was the Von. R.
D. Mess, M.M., D.D., of Walker-
ton, Archdeacon of Saugeen.
Miss Irma Bernard, a junior
member of the congregation,
prdsided' at the organ console
and played for the junior choir
as they sang "Jesu From Thy
Throne on High," by Pollock.
In the evening the service of
consecration was conducted by
the Rt. Rev. H. F. Appleyard,
M.0 , B.A., D.D., of Owen Sound,
Bishop of Georgian Bay, assist-
ed by Archdeacon Mess, and

Loss $30,000
As Fire Strikes
Hensall Plant
Fire early Thursday morning
caused an estimated $30,000 to
$35,000 damage to a locker
plant on King Street, Hensall.
About 400 lockers and some of
their contents were seriously
damaged by fire,' smoj e' and
water at the cold storage plant
owned by Lorne Hay, on Hen -
sail's Main Street.
Mr, Hay said the fire started
in the top of the two-storey
building. Fire Chief Byran Kyle
said most - of the actual fire
damage was confined • to the
roof. The building is located
in a residential area, but no
homes were damaged by,f'the
fire. No one was working in
the plant at the time.
Nine hours earlier, firemen
were called to a barn fire on
the farm of Allen Miller, RR 1,
Hensall. The barn and two
smaller buildings were destroy-
ed, with damage estimated at
$2,500.
An Irishman was reading the
inscriptions on tombstones in a
strange cemetery when he came
to one -which read: "Sandy Mc-
Gregor ... a kind father , . .
an honest man,"
"Wel, well," he ejaculated,
"Isn't that just like the Scotch
W -",three men in orla grave."
