The Huron Herefordocia- tion reported a total of $8,a5 in receipts. The day's bidding was brisk with a large crowd on hand. Last year's sale saw 23 ani- mals average $331.74. Nine bulls t"liis year brought $3,700, an average of $419, -while 15 females sold for $4,245, or an average of $283. A Dublin farmer, James Del- aney, paid the- day's top price of $500 for a 1Ii-year-old bull consigned by Hirtzel Brothers, of Crediton. Top buyer was G. L. Clarke, of Ravenswood, who paid a to- tal of $965 for one female con- signed from the herd of W. Earl Brand & Son, of Forest, and two females from 1-I. Ford, of Erin: The highest priced female, a bred heifer, sold for $400 to John R. Dickson, of RR 5, Brus- sels, from the herd of Whitney Coates & Son, of Centralia. Another top buyer was H. A. Montgomery & Son, RR 2, Gode- rich, who paid $380 for a bull consigned by Heber J. L. Eedy & Sons, of Dungannon,.$240 for a bred heifer consigned by W. Earl Brand & Son, and $380 for a bred heifer consigned. by, LOCAL BRIEFS Dr. J. M. Rowat, Mrs. Rowat and daughter. of Toronto, and Mr. W. A. Mr. and Mrs. Donald Smith and family, London, spent the weekend with Mrs. I4. E. Smith. Dr. and Mrs. Donald McKen- zie and family were Sunday guests of Miss Rena McKenzie and Mr. John McKenzie. Mr. Coates. Hoffman Brothers, of Dash- wood, took home two females, payinga total of $520, both from Hirtzel Brothers' herd. Ernest Robinson & Sons, of RR 3, Mitchell, paid $265 for a female consigned fregn the--Eedy herd and $200 for another fe- sale consigned by H. J. Thur, of Waterlog. George R. McGee, of RR 3, Wingham. paid $435 for a bull consigned by Stan Jackson, of Kippen; C. W. Sparling, of Gor- rie, $425 for a bull consigned by Eedy; Ken Eckles, of Conn, $420 for a bull from the Tur herd, and Joseph Shea, of Dublin, $415 for a bull consigned by W. N. Hancock, of Galt. W. S. O'Neil, of Denfield, was auctioneer. Council Sets Tax Prepayments Tuckersmith Council author- ized the issuing of tax prepay- ment certificates at the May meeting Tuesday. This is a system whereby any taxpayer in the Township of Tucker - smith can pay part of, or nearly all, of his current year's taxes, in advance, and receive inter- est at the rate of 6 per cent per annum on his investment. It was hoped by council mem- bers that more ratepayers would take advantage of this service. Municipal drainage was a major item on the agenda. The court of revision on the Bean Drain was held at 9:00 p.m., and two appeals were .consider- ed. Following this, the reports of the Clark and Buchanan Drains were read. Clerk J. I. McIntosh was instructed to pre- pare cash by-laws and court of revision was set for 9:00 .and 9:30 p.m., respectively, on June 5th. The following accounts were passed for payment: Roads, $1,109.49; Warbicide, $190.00; fire protection, $214; Town of Seaforth, SDHS debenture, $2,- 651.89; fox bounty, $20; muni- cipal drainage, $984.02; welfare; $164.75; dump, $197; admini- stration, $267.08. Mrs. Madeline Smeathers, of Detroit, visited with her sister, Mrs. Elmer Stephenson and family last weekend. Mr. Ivy Henderson was in To- ronto visiting his daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Gor- don Churchward. Mr. Jimmy Reid, of Weston, spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Stephenson.
