The 'Shadowline' 225 Queen Street, Clinton
The "Shadowline" home at
225 Queen Street Clinton, is
one of a series of three homes
being completed by Earl R.
Doucette, Clinton builder. Fac-
ing north over the Frank An-
drews farm, they command a
view which is fairly impressive.
Situated within 50 yards of
-one of Clinton's major food
markets, these homes are .also
within a block and a half of
the hospital and modern nurs-
es' residence, one .block from
Highway 4 as it enters Clinton
from the north. It's in an area
of town_ which is 90 percent
residential, with traffic at 'a
minimum.
The entrance to the "Sha and storage space built over
rnene" is a sturdy built the cellar stairs, adequate for
cement porch with handsome
ironwork railing. The door is off-season items, kitchen lin-
of mahogany, in tear -drop ens, etc.
The medium blue walls of
the kitchen lead through the
hall of the same colour, to
the sleeping, area, three bed-
rooms with wide windows
and , spacious clothes cup-
boards. Floors are of plank
tile in straight and herringbone
design. There are three wall
plugs in each, and the walls
are in pastels.
design, and opens into a spa-
cious entrance way, with wide
closet area, and arched door-
way into the living room.
This room is 14'x18', floored
in red oak, with windows on
two sides. The ceiling is in
dappled brown and beige.
The kitchen is a true fam-
ily room, - with' built-in- mahog=
any cupboards with drawers
sliding on nylon wheels, arbor-
ite moulded counter in gold
dappled design and vinyl asbes-
tos sandran floor. Entrance to
the kitchen is through the side
door of fir, finished in redwood.
Off the kitchen, which has a
dining area, is a walk-in utility
cupboard with built-in shelves,
"Shadowline"—
Named by Builder
People are asking about
that name.
Builder Doucette reports that
he chose the name "Shadow -
line" because of the rather
unique installation of siding.
Ordinarily shingles are '?$
inch • thick. On the "Shadow -
line" an under -layer of fibre-
board, %-in.ch thick, is install-
ed under the shingle siding.
This results in a half-inch lay-
er, which `gives greater insula-
tion.
In addition,' the half-inch
thickness increasesthe "sha-
dow line at the lower edge
to each single.
Therefore, the "Shadowline"
name.
A -Smile Or Two
The bathroom is rose -tiled
with green fixtures, a built-in
beige vanity with chrome knobs
to match the other accessories,
and a pale green counter top.
Floor is beige tile. A shower,
with rod, and spacious linen
closet, along with a built-in
medicine cabinet over the sink
with twin sliding mirror doors
lighted by fluorescent rod, com-
plete this room. ..
Shelves in the bedroom
clothes closets are the new
slatted variety, built to shed
dust, and easy removal for
housecleaning.
