REELECTS MRS. FRED BEER
The annual meeting of Hen -
sail Women's Institute was held
Wednesday evening in the Le-
gion Hall, attended by 40, with
President Mrs. Fred" Beer in
the chair. Mrs. Robert Elgie
presented the slate of officers
and conducted the installation.
Mrs. Fred Beer was .re-elected
president for, the fourth term.

pointed.
"Take our Choice" was the
highlight of the evening: On
the panel were Mrs. Elgie, Mrs.
Sherritt, Mrs. Armstrong, and
Miss Lami{nie. Guests were Mrs.
Payne, Mrs. Cook, Mrs. Hess,
Mrs. Jack Corbett, Mrs. James
McAllister, Mrs. H. Horton,
Mrs. Peck, Mrs. Bengough and
Mrs. Lorne Chapman.
Two lovely duets were sung
by Mrs. Carl Passmore and Misa
Mary Goodwin, with Miss Lam-
mie accompanist. Mrs. Dilling
gave courtesy remarks. A de-
licious luncheon was served.
Program conveners were Mrs.
Basil Edwards and Mrs. W. B.
Cross; hostesses, Mrs. Harry
Horton and Mrs. Len Purdy.

tenth wedding anniversary cele-
bration was held for Mr. and
Mrs. Sam McCurdy, with a tur-
key dinner served in th.base-
ment of Cromarty Presbyian
Church by the members of the
Ladies' Aid. After dinner the
{guests were invited to the home
of Mr. and Mrs. John Miller,
Staffa, for an afternoon of pro-
gressive euchre and visiting.
Jim Miller read an address,
and Jack and Ken Duncan pre-
sented Mr. and Mrs. McCurdy
with a set of kitchen chairs.
Guests present included Wil-
liam McCurdy, Miss Nettie Mc-
Curdy, Mr. and Mrs. J. Duncan,
Mr. and Mrs. K. Duncan, all of

An invitation was accepted
from Edelweiss Rebekah Lodge,
Seaforth, to be their guests May
10, on the occasion of their
fiftieth anniversary, when Mrs,
Helen Bowman, president _of
the Rebekah Assembly of On-
tario, and Mrs. Eula Hickey, of
Kirkland Lake, will be present.
An article - on Chylo Colfax,
founder of Rebekah Oddfellow-
ship, was read by the recording
secretary. A (motion was passed
to send a donation to the Home
at Barrie.
A social followed the meet-
ing, commemorating the 111th
anniversary. of Rebekah Oddfel-
lowship,
FUNERALS
MARY JANE HAGAN
The death of Mary Jane
'Hagan, daughter of the late
James Hagan and Ann Cather-
ine Jordan Hagan, pioneer resi-
dents of Hay Township, occur-
red Thursday, April 12, in St.
Joseph Hospital, London. Her
death followed a fall the pre-
vious Saturday, resulting in a
fractured hip and severe shock.
Miss Hagan was in her 96th
year,
She was born on the home-
stead, near Hillsgreen, on the
Parr Line and attended school
there. In early life she was a
dressmaker and for almost 40
years was employed by Small -
man & Ingram, London, later
opening a business of her own.
In 1945 she retired, returning
to the homestead at Hillsgreen.
Upon the death of her brother,
he and her sister moved to
eaforth in 1950. For the past
year and a half she has resided
at St. Mary's, London. Sl)e was
a member of the Catholic Wo-
men's League, Propagation' of
the Faith, League of the Sacred
Heart, and was a member of
St. James' parish, Seaforth.
Several brothers and sisters
predeceased her. Surviving are
brothers Dr. John A. Hagan,
Chicago, and Dr. Laurie Hagan,
Evanston, Ill; a sister, Mother
Angela (Teresa), . of the Ursu-
line Order, Brescia Hall, Lon-
don; also Leo Hagan, Seaforth,,
a nephew, and several nieces'
and nephews in the States.
The remains rested at the W.
J. Cleary funeral home, Sea -
forth, until Saturday morning,
when. Solemn Requiem High
Mass was sung by Rev. C. E.
Sullivan, St. James' parish, Sea -
forth, assisted by Rev. Remi
Durand, Dublin,, deacon, and
Rev. L. G. Coughlin, St. Colum -
ban, sub -deacon. Rev. D. J. Mc-
Master, chaplain at Brescia
Hall, London, was in the Sanc-
tuary. A number of Sisters of
the Ursuline Order and St.
Joseph's Order; attended the
funeral:
Following the Mass, burial
took place in St. Boniface ceme-
tery, Zurich, with Rev. Cyril
Doyle officiating at the graveside
service. The pallbearers were
John Murphy, Lloyd Bedard,
Edward Brady, Peter McIver,
John Soldan and A. Y. McLean.

Jewel To Former
Zurich Mason
Dr. Byron A. Campbell, To-
ronto, was presented with his
60 years Masters Jewel at Hur-
on -Bruce Masonic Lodge at To-
ronto Thursday night. Very
Worshipful Bro. Dr. Byron
was born in 186?, practised in
Zurich for 25 years until the
1920's, and was made a mem-
ber of Huron Lodge July 20,
1899, and Master of, Huron
Lodge December 27, 1901; af-
filiated with Huron -"Bruce
Lodge, Toronto, as a charter
member, June 26, 1922. Ap-
poi'nted assistant Grand Organ-
ist July, 1952, he was present-
ed by Most Worshipful Bro.
Harry L. Martin with a 10 -year
bar to his ' 50 -year Jewel; also
a 60 -year Jewel as a Past ivIas-
ster, and agaip appointed as-
sistant Grand Organist on Apr.
12, 1962.
Very Wor. Bro. Campbell was
escorted into the lodge by the
Director of Ceremonies, and Dr.
Campbell introduced Very Wor.
Bro, W. 0. Goodwin, secretary,
and Bro. George Hess, visitors
from Huron Lodge, Hensall, and
Bro. Ray Lammie, a cousin of
Dr. Campbell, and Bro. Leonard
Wilson, both visitors of Leban-
on Forest Lodge, Exeter.
It was indeed a happy and
unique evening for Very Wor.
Bro. Campbell, and be also took
part in the work in a very dra-
matic manner. The evening
concluded with a tasty banquet
and . a most revealing address
was given by Dr. Davies, pastor
of, Park Street Baptist Church,
Toronto.
