Committee Chairman Angus
MacLean said discussions with
the boards had indicated little
could be done about increasing
costs. Salaries were determin-
ed by the teachers federation.
Councillor Cardno agreed and
recalled previous difficulties
with staff in Seaforth schools.
Sometimes we may think the
boards may not be as conscien-
tious as they could be, but they.,
are up against a 'problem, he'
said.
Councillor • -Dinsmore object-
ed to the demands. We should
send it (the budget) back and
tell them how much we will
give them,1 he suggested.
A •delegation, representing
Sepforth Lions Club, discussed
costs of maintenance at the
Lions Park. Council has been
giving a grant of $500, and was
asked to increase this to $1,50,,
which represents half the net
cost of operation.
Councillor Dinsmore agreed
it was "pretty cheap at $500,"
and with Reeve Ball moved the
request for $1500 be referred
to the finance committee.
The delegation included Pres-
ident John Langstaff, Lee Learn,
L. F. Ford and C. Rowcliffe.
A delegation from the Agri-
cultural Society, including R.
McMillan, G. Papple and Art
Bolton,sked for an increase
in the grant to $500.
Council asked for recommen-
dations and costs when the
works committee suggested
making provision for the grad-
er by extending the garage at
the rear of the Town Hall.
Reference to a proposed meet-
ing between the town, the
OWRC and engineers, concern-
ing the sewer program, gener-
ated a heated exchange as Coun-
cillor Earl Dinsmore claimed he
could not find out where sewers
were going.
Mayor Daly and sewer chair-
man J. F. Flannery recalled the
matter had been discussed sev-
eral times and plans were
available, indicating general'
routes. Detailed engineering
covering depths had not been
completed.
Clerk Hammond produced a
map showing approved lines to
show Councillor Dinsmore.
To eliminate difficulties in
event of fire, council instructed
that fire pumpers were not to
be used for other than fighting
fires.. There had been occasions
when a pumper had been used
to blow out a drain.
The fire brigade was com-
mended for the job it had done
in bringing the Henderson fire
under control..•
Council took naction on a
suggestion of Mayor Daly con-
cerning the purchase of an up-
to-date }nap of the town. En-
gineer Burns Ross, of Gode-
rich, offered the map at $400.
Mayor Daly pointed out there
is no map available on which
drains, additions, street chang-
es and so on can be entered,
and as a result proper records
are not being maintained.
