He Can't Come Back
DEAR DORIS—A year ago I
started going out with a cer-
tain young man and, although
I was only 15 at the time, I got
serious about him. Nothing else
mattered to me as long as I
had hind, and he felt the same
way.
We went on this way for sev-
en months, then he got killed.
My heart broke, but my mother
said I would soon get over it.
That was five months ago and
still I am heartbroken. 1 keep
thinking that he is going to
come back to me, but I know
he couldn't. My parents tell me
to go out with other boys, and
although I do this, I can't en-
joy myself.
Could you please help me to
find the best cure for a bad case
of blues, and also how I could
possibly forget my long lost
love?
Still Longing
DEAR LONGING—I'm sorry.
It just seemed perfect, didn't
it? Treasure your wonderful
memories of this time.
You have not yet accepted his
death as a fact, and you must.
Life is change, and many` fine
people have faced and dealt
with disappointments just as
great as yours. Having loved so
well, you have increased your
capacity to give and receive
Love, if you can see it that way.
Five months is not very long
to heal a broken heart. Delib-
erately join in sociable times
with your pals, and the hurt
will ease off as tilts.,goes by.
* * *
DEAR DORIS—I'm 90 next
week, and some younger friends
of mine insist on giving me a
party. Can't say I'm much to
look at these days. I don't know
what I expect to see when I
look in a mirror, but what I
do see always gives me 'a
shock.
Fooling aside, tell me what
on earth to say when they pre- -
sent me with a gift. I've been
told to be prepared.
90 Years Young
DEAR YOUNG —.Say, .they
have no idea what their friend-
ship means to you. Say you'll
treasure your gift for life!
Then, for a laugh at your-
self, read them these verses by
Mrs. Sallie Patricia Powell, a
94 -year-old poet with a sense of
humor:
"When I look in the mirror,
which I seldom do,
A very strange face comes in-
to view;
It's a face that's all wrinkled;
has a look of despair,
And a head that.iscovered with
snow white hair.
"I wonder if that face in the
mirror I see .
Could it he possible? Is it me?
Then I think of the 94 years
I've passed through,
And the face in the mirror
says, 'Yes, it is you'!"
