Serve Producers in Huron, Perth
Fully automatic grain hand-
ling facilities come into use at
Topnotch Feeds Limited .this
week.
Designed to eliminate undue
waiting to unload and at the
same time provide, every safe-
guard to ensure that the grain
is correctly handled and weigh-
ed, the new installation in-
cludes a large -type trailer hoist
and automatically produced
weigh slips. - '-
The new equipment will en-
able the company to hoist trail.
ers hauling up to' 25 tons of
grain, elevate -grain at 3,000
bushels per hour, and dry 12.
000 bushels of corn in one day.
Officials of Topnotch Feeds
Limited said that with the in-
creased acreage of cash crop
productiOn in Huron County,
there will be an increasing re-
quirement fpr handling facili-
ties in the county to provide
markets for this increased pro-
duction.
Corn, Beans
During the past eight years,
Topnotch have been handling
cash grain crops, such as wheat,
flax and oats. With the new
facilities Topnotch will now al-
so provide a market for corn
and whitebeans. With the use
of faster equipment in the field
and larger loads on the road,
coupled with increased produc-
tion of corn and white beans,
Topnotch' felVthere was a need
for faster handling equipment
at elevators offering farmers a
market for, their cash grain
crops.
• Construction of the $130,000
addition began in May. ,
Everything Aptomatic
Grain is unloadAl into a pew
dump sink. To do this, a new
hoist takes over and elevates
every load from the biggest
semi -trailers to the. smallest
pickup truck.
Up the legs from the dtune
sink the grain goes to the new
Crippon cleaner, where a dou-
ble screen and divided flow ar-
rangement ensures that all
grain, regardless of type, will
be cleaned thoroughly. The
cleaner has a capacity of up
to 3,000 bushels an hour, de-
pending on the type of grain be-
ing handled.
- From here the grain is car-
ried to an automatic scale, de-
signed with a beam that per
mits part dumps to be wei
ed. Each weigh is recor&d
automatically, and at the same
,time a weight slip is issued
for the customer, which indi-
cates the in -out weight of each
dump.
New Capacity
The expansion program has
included the construction of two
additional concrete grain tanks,
which brings the storage ca-
pacity at Topnotch up, to 111,-
000 bushels. Each storage unit
is equipped with aeration units.
The Bell -Camp dryer—larg-
est type available in Canada—
is a continuous flow Oryer that
automatically adjusts to the re-
quirement of the particular
grain going' through the unit.
The dryer has a capacity of
from 600 to 1200 bushels per
hour, depending on the mois-
ture content. Corn., for instance,
with a moisture content of 30%
will have moisture cut in half
at 600 bushels an hour.
A special feature of the in-
stallation is the fully automat-
ed grain handling' process that
ensures there will be no Possi-
bility of one type of grain in
process being in contact with
other types that may have gone
through the 'system previously.

sion at Topnotch Feeds Limited here, checks plans, for the
new facilities as construction got under way some weeks age'

expansion program neared completion. (Expositor photo by
