The bridegroom is the son of

For the occasion Avonton
Presbyterian dhurch was decor-
ated with white gladioli, Shasta
chrysanthemums and blue -tint-
ed carnations. Rev. Robert Bisl
set officiated at the ceremony
and Ernest Greenwood, Mit-
chell, played traditional wed-
ding music on the organ. ,The
choir was made up of Brian,
Mary, Elaine, Robert, Debbie,
Kathy and Sandy Innes and
Lloyd, Anne Marie and Myrna
Walkom.
Given in marriage by her
brother, the bride wore a silk
organza gown, styled with a
full-length controlleeskirt. The
bodice of deep Swiss embroid-
ery insertions had a square
neckline and elbow - length
sleeves. The • same insertions
formed a band around the skirt
from the knee to hem. A de-
tachable train flowed from a
bow at the ,waist. A crown of
pearls and crystal held her
four -tier scalloped illusion veil.
She' carried a Bible arrange -
tient of white- Starlite roses
and blue -feathered carnations.

FRUIT SHORTCAKE •
cup sugar
The small fruit such as straw- pint whippiqg cream
2 tablespoons sugar,
Mix, and sift flour, baking
powder, salt and sugar. Cut in
butter with 'a pastry blinder
until mixture resembles- fine
bread crumbs. Make a well,
pour in all the milk at one.
time and mix quickly to make
a soft but not sticky dough.
Turn onto a lightly floured
board, quickly form into a‘ball,
then knead for 20 seconds by
pressing and folding dough sev-
eral tinies. Shape„dough in one
of the three following ways:
1. Roll dough lightly to an
8 -inch' round and place in a
lightly greased 8 -inch layer
cake pan.

2. Divide .clough in half, then -
roll each half to an 8 -inch
round. Place one half in a
lightly greased 8 -inch layer
cake pan, brush top lightly with
melted butter, then place sec-
ond round on top.
'• 3. Roll dough lightly 'to
about %-inch thickness. Cut in
2%-ineh rounds with , biscuit
cutter. - Place on baking sheet.
Bake in a hot oven x(42,5°F.
•until •lightlYi>browned, allowing
15 to 20.)minittes for cakes, 12
to 15 minutes for biscuits.
MeanWhile, wash and hull
strawberries. Reserve eight
choice berries for garnish.
Slice remainder ;• add the 1/2 cup.
sugar and stir to mix.
Split cake or biscuits ss -
wise while warm, butteif sur%
face. and immediately spread
herries between layers and on
top. Cover with whipped cream
sweetened' with remaini-ng so•
gar arid • garnish with -Whole
berries -eight servings. •
.berries, blueberries and rasp-
berries make dessert time a
treat, especially when there's a
shortcake on the menu.

recipes -for making shortcakes.
The following recipes suggest
ed by home economists are de-
licious examples.
• Strawberry Shortcake
"This is the old fashioned bis-
cuit. type shortcake—economi-
cal and easy to make."
2'- cups sifted all-purpose
flour •
4 teaspoons baking powder
1/3 teaspon salt

The bridesmaids, Miss Elsie
Inns,BB 2, St. Pauls, sister of
the bride, and Miss Gayle Lan-

bridegroom, wore costumessim-
ilar to that of the matron of
honor.
Karen Hislop, Hamilton, was
the flower girl. She wore 'a
full-length dress of white em-
broidered nylon with a square
neckline, and she carried a bas-
ket of white. Fugi chrysanthe-
mums and blue Pinocchio pom-
pones.
Darwin Lannin, RR 2, Dub-
lin, brother of the bridegroom,
Was the best man. The guests
from Port Hope, Toronto, Ham-
ilton, Kitchener, Stratford, Lon -
Lion, Detroit, Embro, Tavistock,
Dublin and St. Pads were ush-
ered by Alexander Innes ;s RR
2, St. Pauls, and 'William Lan-
nin, Dublin.
Summer flowers and blue
candles decorated the church
parlor for the reception.. The
guests were served by Miss
Marilyn Aitcheson, Miss Petty

After the reception the cou-
ple left on their honeymoon to
Western Canada. For travelling
the bride changed into a two-
piece white, Jacquard weave
cotton knit dress, enhanced by
a corsage of red garnet Sweet-
heart roses, white purse and
shoes, and a copen blue petalled
hat.
The couple will reside on the
bridegroom's farm; -RR 2, Dub-
lin.

In a rather listless game
Wednesday at St. Columba%
Goderich was beaten 6-3. The
game had little or no bearing
on the league standing, as the
champs had not lost a game: all
„season.
St. Columban led 5-0 at half
time and seemed- to coast the
rest of the way, Gerald ' and
Harry Ryan scging most of
the team's goals. A large crowd

summer carnival and supper.

returned home after spending
a. week at St. Louis, Missouri,
helping missionaries ‘'Mr. and
Mrs. Hubert Schwartzentruher,
formerly of Zurich,- now work-
ing among the negroes of that
city.

RECIPE OF THE MONTH
By the Ontario Tender Fruit Institute
"Buy Canada Choice Canned Fruit"
COCOANUT PEACH SALAD
Summertime Salad for Your Party or Your Family
2 boxesof lemon gelatin
1 cup dessicated cocoanut
1 sheet tinfoil
2 tins Canada Choice peach halves
(buy your favourite brand -of Ontario -produced
v, package cream cheese (White) ktp
'1 bunch watercress
(or other greens for garnishing)
Dissolve gelatin in one cup of hot water and pour in-
to cake tin (glass or aluminum). Sprinkle % cup of cocoa-
nut into gelatin. Divide tin foil in 4 strips and fold stiff to
use as dividers, for. 9 equal square servings of jelly. Leave
jelly .in refrigerator until slightly set. •Fill ' 9 peach halves'
with ,white qrearti cheese and place one in each square (fiat
side down). Hold in place with toothpicks. Cut up the rest ,
' of the peaches and add, some to each square. Dissolve seo;
ond box of gelatin in one cup of cold water and pour slowly
into mould. Sprinkle remaining, cocoanut over. all. Chill
thoroughly. Unmould, remove tinfoil dividers carefully.
Slice each square with sharp knife. Garnish with watex-
cress. Serves.9.
