4Oth Wedding occasion
Mr. and Mrs. Beverly Beaton
of Itensall celebrated their 40th
wedding anniversary on Sunday,
with,A turkey dinner in the Hen-
sall "tLegion ' Hall: About 'Sixty
relatives and friends ' attended

don, Toronto, Mitchell, Exeter,
Stratford, Seaforth, Grand Bend,
Zurich and -Hensall, The tables.
and hall were beautifully decora-
ted in red, white and -silver, the
head table centered with a three
tiered anniversary cake. Baskets
of red roses formed an attrac-
tive background. Seated at the
head table were Mr: and Mrs.
Beaton and son Ronald, Mr. and
Mrs. William Greene, Rev. and
Mrs. John C° Boyne of Exeter,
Mrs. Beaton's aunt, Mrs. Sarah
-Balkwill, Exeter, Mr. Beaton's
aunt;' Mrs. Kate Douglas of Ot-
tawa, now of Stratford.
Mrs. Beatrice' Hess of Zurich
sang two' solos, accompanied by
Miss Carol Brown of Seaforth.
Mrs. Alex McBeath favored with
a reading' and community, sing
ing was enjoyed by all. Congra-
tulations were received from
their son Beverly Jr„ who was
unable to attend. The . couple
- were recipients of many- gifts,
several of ruby glass ware.
, Rev. Boyne acted as Masten of
Ceremonies, proposing a toast
to Mr. and Mrs. Beaton and res.
ponded to by both. Ronald pro-
posed a toast to his parents.•Mr.
Beaton's aunt, Mrs. Douglas and
several others spoke a few words
wishing them many more years
of happiness. Mr. Beaton thank-
, ed the eight ladies who helped
with the dinner and Mrs. Beaton
presented each'•one with a gift,
Miller Family Has Picnic
With ideal weather prevail-
ing, the Lions Park, Seaforth,
on Saturday was the setting for
the annual Smillie clan picnic
with a splendid attendance` pf-
ficers elected were: Honorary
president, Dr. Jennie Robert-
son; -president, Stewart Smillie;
vice-president, Mrs. Grace Peck;
secretary -treasurer, Jean Elder;
business ,committee, Dr. Alex
Smillie, Jack Elder; sports,
.4arry and Fred Elder.
A full afternoon and evening
was spent visiting and with
sporting events. Delbert Geiger
won the spring guessing event.
"A snowshoe race was won by
Donald Geiger and Kert Elder.
Another new event was the
„Chef -Girl -Ar -Dee event, won by
Mary Scafe and Grace Peck.

this Friday; July .16, by motor
for a month's vacation to the
west' coast.
Mrs. Grace Peck is spending
this week vacationing in Kings-
ville .with her sisters; Mrs.

has accepted.' a •position with

taken to Clinton Hospital, Mon-
day morning by ambulance, with

she suffered a fall in her home.
Mrs. Manley Jinks, who has
been a patient for the past
month in Clinton Public Hospi-
tal, .has. left the hospital and is.
recuperating at the home of
her. 'son and daughter-in-law,
Mr. and Mrs. Ross Jinks, and
family, Gail and Billy, of Lon-
don, Her daughter, Susan, is
also 'with her. °

ed from a vacation spent with

Lindsay, accountant at the

dale, has been transferred to
a Hamilton branch. .
Miss Margaret Smillie receiv-
ed word that she has been suc-
eessftil in her year's work at
Coile4e of Education in Toron
to, receiving her Type "A"
teaching certificate. She will
teach high ,school in Toronto.
Jerry McClinchey is .taking a
six weeks,' summer course at
Waterloo *University College.
Miss Sharon Smillie graduat-
ed, from the U.W.O. School of
Nursing, receiving her diplpra
in Nur `sfng' Education. Sharon
has accepted a position as a
clinical on the surgical floor at
St. Joseph's Hospital, London.
Capt. Bill McRae, who has
been stationed in •Tullahoma,
Tenn., U.S.A., has been posted
to Ottawa and with his wife
and family, Chrissie, Bill, Bob,
Laurie and Stephen, will take
up residence. They were for-
merly of Hensall.
Miss Margaret Smillie has re-
turned from a motor 'tour along
.the St. Lawrence : Seaway and
through the Eastern Pr d aces.
Flt./Lt. R. D. McArthu s.
McArthur, Mac and Cam, of
Rivers, Man., visited with Mr.
and Mrs. Fred Beer before leav-
ing for Ottawa on Friday, where
Flt./Lt. McArthur will remain
on temporary duty before going
on course 'at Trenton. Mrs. Mc-
Arthur and sons will return to
Hensall to spend the remainder
of the summer.
Miss Jean Henderson, who
has been on the teaching staff
at Kitkatla, B.C„ has returned
home for her summer vacation.

Helm wedding at Scarborough
on Saturday last.

ray were honored at a recep-
tion, and dance at Zurich Com-
munity Centre, Zurich, Satur-
day evening, following their
marriage on Saturday. They -
were presented with a purse of
money, presentation -address be-
ing read by Dwayne Tinney and
gift presented by Bruce Shir=

entertained the Shirray-Tinney

hearsal on Thursday evening at

Mrs. Murray Baker and Mrs.
George Beer were hostesses at
the latter's' home in honor of
Miss Marilyn Lone, bride -elect
of Saturday. The ,bride was es-
corted to a decorated chair and
presented with a corsage of
pink roses. -A social hour was
enjoyed by about 30 friends
and relatives of the bride. The
address was ' read by Dorothy
Taylor and the gifts presented
by Shirley and Marlyn 13rint-
nelI.
Tea Honors. Miss Passmore
Mrs. Pearl Passmore, Hen-
sall.,entertained at a trousseau
tea in honor of her daughter,
Norma, whose marriage to Felix
Boogemans, Oakville, will take
place Saturday in Hensall Unit-
ed Church. Guests were receiv-
ed by Miss Passmore, her
mother, and Mrs. Frans Beoge-
mans, mother of the groom -el-
ect. .
The tea table was • covered
with a white cut -work cloth and
centered with an arrangement
of white carnations and pink
bachelor buttons and flanked by
pink tapers.
Pouring tea was Mrs. May
Gates, Burlington. Assisting in
the tea room were Mrs... Ruth
Anne Boogemans, Mrs. Bernice
Boogemans, Miss Pat Rowe and,
Miss Pat Harris. Gifts were
shown by ]Miss Sharon Smillie;
trousseau by Mrs. Ron Pass-
more, London, sister-in-law of
the bride -elect, and Carole
Westceft., Miss Sharon Lavery
was in charge of the guest

with a score of 3 to 1. '
,Dolly Mattson was the big
gun at the plate for the wie-
ners with a game, winning a
home run with a mate aboard
in the third innings. She also

night at the plate. Gail Mar-.
cell also had a perfect night at
the plate with three singles.
Winning pitcher, June Chu -
ter, went the distance, striking
out ten batters, while scatter-
ing-„six
catter-ing-six hits 'and walking only
two batters. Singles by Mary

District No. 23 of the Rebekahs
held at th6 ludge hall, Henson,
Mrs. Edna Caldwell was in-
stalled as District Deputy Presi=
dent for 1965-66, by Mrs:.Har-
ry Beaver, DDP, of Exeter.
Members of lodges who attend-
ed were from Goderich, Clinton,
S,eaforth, Brussels and Exeter.
Mrs. Beaver, retiring DDP, of
Exeter,' was presented With her
past president's jewel. All the

Rebekah Lodge. Hensall, sang,

anied at the piano by Mrs.

Returns From Germany •
Sgt. Ronald MacKinnon, of
the Highland In£antry,-who has
been stationed in Germany for
four years, arrived in Trenton
,Saturddy night by RCAF plane,
and motored home, arriving
here Sunday, and with his
Wife and family, Gary and
Tami, will spend a" month vis-
iting with his mother, Mrs.
Donald" MacKinnon,' and broth-
ers Donald and Bill. Sgt. Mac-
Kinnon will be stationed in
Canada.

Loses - Two
Hensall lost to Exeter and
Brucefield on home grounds,
but salvaged one- game with a
Win at Goderich.
Thursday night Hensall lost
to Exeter 13-6, but journeyed
to Goderich on Saturday night
and came up with a convincing
22-11 win. Monday night the
experienced Brucefield crew
took the game by 17-3. Next
Hensel] home game is, with- Ex-
eter Greys on Saturday night.
Orr Family Has Reunion
The Orr reunion was held on
Sunday at the farm home of
Mr. and Mrs. Elson Arnold and
family at. Bervie. About sixty
members enjoyed dinner and
supper, -coming from Montreal,
L o n -d o n, Parkhill,• Hensall,
Wingham, Langside, Kinloss,
Pine River, Chesley, Wierton
and Bervie.
The conveners were Mrs. El-
son Arnold,, Miss Winnie Percy
and Miss Joan Percy. The
sports were many and varied,
as follows: Confetti and bowl
contest; grandma and grandpa
feeding the baby; pick your
husband blindfolded; charades;
sit on a balloon for little tots;
push a peanut on a yard stick
with your nose relay; drink wa-
ter •frtnir a spoon; water -filled
balloon contest stretch articles
of wearing apparel along the
ground to get the- longest line;
back-to-back race; find out who
you are; clothes pins in a milk
bottle relay; running race, three
years and under.
The 1966 reunion is to be

Is Home Again
Mr. ,Ray McKinnon, who has
been a patient in Victoria Hos-
pital, London, for nine weeks
recovering from severe burns
to his arms and body, return-
ed home Monday.

Fifteen young girls, "The
Blake Busy Bees", from •- the
Western Ontario Mennonite
Church, Blake, called ' at the
Queensway Nursing Home in
Hensall to entertain the resi-
dents with a program of sing-
ing and a devotional period,
and to present. the 18 residents
with treats. Mr. and Mrs. Lew-
is Gingerich were in charge.
Members of the group were:

Marjorie Erb, Mary, Dorothy,
Helen and Ruth Anne Steckle,

Former Hensall
Resident Dies
Frederick W. T. Smallacombe,
well - known businessman of
Guelph, who operated a plumb-
ing and heating business, died
suddenly Tuesday morning,
July 6th, with a heart at-
tack after watching a late mov-
ie on television.
1VIr, Smallacombe, 59, was
born in Hensall, son of ,the
late Mr. and Mrs. Fred Smalla-
combe. He was a veteran of
the Second World War and a
member of the Masonic Order
in Guelph.
Surviving are his wife, Doro-
thy Waters; two sons, Fred,
with . the American Airforce,
England;' Clifford, Guelph; one
daughter, Sharon, at home; one
sister, '(Jean) Mrs. Cornelus
Faber, RR 3, Exeter. - He was
a nephew of Miss Ellis:
Funeral services were held
from, the Tovell Funeral Home,
Guelph, Thursday, July 8th,
with burial in ,Woodlaw ceme-
tery, Guelph.

clerk presented the semi-an-
nual report showing receipts of

• The Clerk was instructed to
send in application to the De-
partment of Municipal Affairs
for approval of a building to
be called a pavilion, to be
erected in the local park for
a centennial project for the
village. The pavilion is to be
40 feet long 13 feet wide, and
costing $2,800.00.

Two men were injured Fri-
day- evening in a $1,250 car -
farm tractor accident at., •the
intersection of Logan sideroad
and concession 6, one and a
quarter miles south of Brod-
hagen. Walter Muegge, 56, RR
4, Mitchell, driver of the trac-
tor, is reported in satisfactory
condition after having been
confined t6 Scott Memorial
Hospital Seaforth.
A passenger in the car, Carl
Rose, 35,- RR 1, Bornholm, was
first taken to Seaforth Hospi-
tal, but later transfer to
to
Stratfor1 General Hospita - He
is in satisfactory condition.
Driver of the car, Glen Rose,
RR 4, Mitchell, is a brother of
Carl Rose. Damage of $1,000
was estimated to the car, and
$250 to the tractor. Sebring-.
ville OPP investigated.
Investigate Breakin
Police are investigating a
breakin and attempted break-
in at two stores that occurred
here early 'Friday morning. An
estimated $400 in merchandise
was taken in a break, enter
and theft at Ford Dickison's
hardware `store, according to
Sebringville OPP, The loot in-
cluded watches, electric mixers
and skill saws. The store 'had
been closed for holidays when
the theft occurred.
The breakin was' -discovered
after -Russell Sholdice told the
OPP that -when he went to open
Sholdice's General Store Fri-
day morning he noticed signs
of attempt to enter the store.
Police checked other premises
for signs of attempted forced
entry; but apparently the two
stores were the only ones in-
volved.

Relatives received word of
the death of Mrs. John Rock,
the former Clara Leonhardt, at
Stettler, Alberta.
The Brodhagen and District
Chamber of Commerce are
again sponsoring a bus to
transpor7t children of the dis-
trict for swimming lessons at
the Lions swimming pool in
Mitchell.
The members. of the' Brod-
hagen and District Chamber of
'Commerce are making plans for
their annual chicken barbecue,
`to be held near the end of
this month.

LCW Meeting
Lutheran Church Women met
with devotions in • charge of
Mrs. Irvin Miller and Mrs. Har-
old Rock. They chose for their
topic, "Little Things Mean a
Loi." Mrs. Lew Hicks was the
.accompanist for the hymns.
President Mrs. Martin Dietz
conducted the business part -of
the meeting. Secretary's and
treasurer'sreports were read.
Pastor and Mrs. Kappes were
welcomed to the meeting.
Thank -you cards were read
from Mrs. Ronald Beuerman,

asked to cater to a wedding in
