A FATHER'S LIES DEAR DORIS—A short time before I left him, my husbarid said to me that he was not the father of our youngest daugh- ter. I'm sure he knew he was lying, but he spread the story where we were living. • Then when my daughter had her tonsils out, the doctor sent him ' the bill, only to get a let- ter back saying he would not pay the bill as he was not the child's father. This is 10 years ag,o, but the hateful story keeps cropping up. I wonder if I could even now do something about it? Dismayed DEAR DISMAYED—A person may -be sued for spreading damaging stories about anoth- er. If your gossiping husband is still talking—to his own de- triment,—surely—a warning in the form of a lawyer's letter might silence him. But isn't most of the damage done by now? ' * * * 'DEAR DORIS—How would a person go about forming a club of rhen and women ranging 'in age from 25 to 40 years? We have one in our city for older married people, -and they have a swell time dancing and play- ing cards. For us, in our age group, there's nothing. We have pH- vate clubs, but you have to be escorted, and it's the same thing for the boys. It's a pret- ty lonely life. We have no chance .of meeting the, opposite sex. Unmarried Girl , DEAR GIRL—Here are some of -the ways it is done: 1) Four or eight members of a course in bridge 'continue bridge evenings after the teach- ing's over. (2), Folks who love -to square clanc,e—oi* round dance—find 'a teacher .and let it be known others are welcohie to join,' for a price. (3) Students of an extension course in upholstering, cera- mics ur other craft meet extra- murally for a picnic. The idea is to focus on a special interest, and inyite oth- ers in. Be ready to stage a bar- becue or a barber shop quar- tette' at the drop of 'a hat. If you are short on ideas, go to your, library. Or write me for some games to play (enclos- ing ten cents and a stamped envelope). Don't worry if:there are fewer men than gals. Have a married couple or two in the bunch tb make the bachelors feel at home. * ' • DEAR DORIS--,Through - an Al -Anon Family Group I learn- ed about living with an alco- holic and that all the unhappi- ness is not becatise of the hus- band's drinking. I came to realize that be- cause I had built up ,so much self-pity, bad temper and all the other bad defects of char- acter, -it was no wonder I was so miserable. I worked on im- proving myself and was able .to find peace of mind, My husband later found help through Alcoholic Anonymous Mrs, Frank Falconer; secretary - treasurer, Mr. and ' Mrs. Bill Riehl; sports, Mr, and Mrs. Dal-' ton Malcolm, Mr. and Mrs. Ross Pepper; table committee, Mr. and Mrs. Carl McClinchey, Ma- bel Higgerson, Mr. and Mrs. John McGregor.
