Ft was around 1908 the Dis-
trict of West Huron WQmen's,
Institutes was forthed, and the
annual meeting of the district
has been an event looked for-
ward to each year by the mem-
bers of the eleven branches
comprising the district, and the
one held in _Blyth Memorial
Hall, Thursday, May 20, was no
exception,
Each branch was represent-
ed; there were 80in attend-
ance.
Displays of handcraft and
Tweedsmuir -history books •have
become a regular feature at
the annual meetings. There
There were 10 Tweedsmuir his-
tories on display—each one dif-
ferent, thereby retaining indi-
viduality, but each containing
valuable history of the com-
munity in which it is being
completed. -
Another interesting collection
was a collection of dolls ,of .•ev-
ery nation, each dressed in their
'blue coal'

The morning session was fill-
ed with reports by the conven-
ers of standing committees of
the district.
Mrs. S. W,quire, Huron
County Hume Economist, re-
ported on junior activities,
which, was very encouraging.
Mrs. Charles Nelson, in re-
porting on Citizen and Educa-
tion, , explained her method of
presenting a report by means
of a. poster.
Mrs. Ed. Davies reported - on
Agriculture and Canadian In-
dustries, suggesting a splendid
topic for debate, "Is farming a
way of life or big. business," -
and as a roll call use, "Differ-
ent ways wheat comes to our
table."
In the .report on historical
research .and current -.events,
Mrs. Bert Alton advised: "Don't
go to a meeting with yester-
day's newspaper in your hand'
and call. it current events. Put
some work on it; study it, and
analyze it."
Mrs. Mary Clairmont, public
relations officer, said: "A good
thing to consider is: If r had
to leave Canada, what country
would I go to, and why?"

member, Mrs. Wesley Bradnock

1,345 senior branches of Wo-
men's - Institutes in Ontario,
with. 35,025 members, and 495
members of junior institutes.
Our national centennial project

Canada lovelier." •
The .meeting was enlivened
by sing -songs led in the morn-
ing by Mrs. Bruce Richmond,
of Blyth, and in the afternoon
by Mrs. W. J. Craig, of Au-
burn. Mrs. Harold A. Campbell
favored with two solos, "How
Great • Thou Art" and "I've
Done My Work,] accompanied
by Miss Pearl Isidley.
Mrs. Keith Webster announc-
ed the bazaar and anniversary
tea, to be held at' Huronviewr
June 2.

The general meeting of
Northside UCW. was held in
the schoolroom. Mrs. G. Mc-
Kenzie, the president, opened
the meeting with a poem, "The
Cost •of Time." The hymn,
"Rock ,of Ages," was sung and
Mrs. McKenzie, led in prayer.
It was decided to withdraw the
strawberry supper this year,,
=and envelopes were given nut
fpr free-will offering. Mrs. E.
H. Close .expressed apprec ia-
tidn to Mrs. J. C. -Britton. for
her hospitality in allowing
members to see work that had
been done at 'the manse by
the UCW.
Mrs. J. Turnbull presided for
the devotional part of the meet-
ing, Unit Four being in charge.
Miss; Christine Turnbull 'favored
with a piano selection; Mrs.. M
Berger gave a reading, "Mon-
day .Volunteers For Angels Un-
awares." Mrs. Turnbull read
the Scripture lesson. Mrs. N.
Bell and Mrs. C. Barrows • rc-
ceived,..f a offering, which was
dedicated by Mrs. Turnbull.
Mrs. C. Lindsay gave a few
thoughts on Faith and Prayer
and led in prayer.
Miss Rena Fennell introduc-
ed the speaker, Miss Marjorie
Inman, of Dunnville, who had
been on an Observer Tour in
March and had visited Trini-
dad, and she told of conditions
of schools,. houses and churches
there, and said that the need
is great for missionary per-
sonnel.
Mrs. R. S. McKercher moved
a vote of thanks to the speaker
and all taking part in the meet-
ing.

trumpet; Sergeant Tom Magee,
'vocalist; and Sergeant Bernie
Bray, one of the world's . fore-
most virtuoso's on the harmoni-
ca.
The evening at Clinton is
planned as an outdoor conceit
and will be open to the general
public. "
Following the concert, at 10
p.m., a gala dance will be held
at the Recreation Centre, at
which time the Training Com-
'mand Dance Band will take over
the Big Band Sounds.
