Those present were: Mr. and Mrs. George Pepper, Mr. and Mrs. Morley Lannin, Darwin Blythe and Gayle, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Barker, Bonnie, Lar- ryand Wendy, Mr. Eric Norris, Mr. and Mrs. George Moore, Wanda, Linda, Randy and War- ren, Mr. and Mrs. Ross Pepper, Dennis and Nancy, Mr. Dalton Balfour and Miss Verde Pauli. Mr. and Mrs. Pepper were presented with a pot of 'flowers from. the family. Tirthieth Anniversary • Mr. and Mrs.. Henry Fawcett were pleasantly surprised • on the occasion of their thirtieth wedding anniversary when they were invited to a turkey din- ner at the home of the latter's brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Wilfred Annis. Later in the evening, about 40'friends' and relations gather- ed for a social evening, George Waldie, of Stratford, addressed the honored couple, and many lovely gifts were presented to them. They expressed their thanks to all present and also to those who had planned the party for them. Mrs. Bill Durst and Marylin called on Mr. and. Mrs. Earl Barker on Sunday, and also call- ed on her parents, Mr. And Mrs. R. S. Aikens. Mr, and Mrs. Fergus Lannin and family visited her parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Broughton, Atwood, on Sunday. Four young people of Zion joined the church Sunday af- ternoon -Gladys Roney, Sandra Smith, Ronnie Caster and Bruce Malcolm. • Miss Ruth Marie- S4ton- is staying for the next two weeks with Mr. and Mrs. Herb- Brit- ton, while her parents, Mr. and Mrs. King Salton, are in Flor- ida. Mr. and Mrs. John Moore and family visited with Mr. and Mrs. Ed. Fischer, Seaforth, on Sunday. Mrs. Charles, Roney and her mother, Mrs. Leslie Williams, and Mrs. Nelson Heal spent Thursday in London. , Mr. and Mrs. Frank Moore were dinner guests of Mrs. Leslie Moore on Sunday, cele- brating Mrs. Arthur . Robinson's birthday, and were joined in the afternoon by Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Barker and .family, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence . Shelley and family, and Mr. and Mrs. Ross McPhail and family,- all daugh- ters of Mrs. Leslie Moore. Mr$. Mr. and Mrs. Wilfred Annis and Joan returned home from Moncton, New Brunswick -after attending the wedding of their nephew, Constable Roy Faw- cett, of RCMP, to Miss Phyllis Lewis. Constable and Mrs; Fawcett are visiting around Mitchell ' and Zion on.,, their honeymoon. They will, make their home in Campbellton in New Brunswick. Mr: and Mrs. Alex Roney were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Vipond recently. Mr. and Mrs. Norman Bush - field visited in London on Fri day. r. AU en- joyed their trip. 010 -Fashioned Rhubarb Desserts Pink, tart 'n tender rhubarb is always a welcome "addition to springtime meals whether you serve it in a sauce, pie or pud- ding. Now that it is oh the market's plentiful list, use it in your menus often. Your rhubarb desserts will be just as good as the rhubarb you select. So, here are a few tips on what to look for -good color is a sign of good flavor, so choose well -colored stalks, pink to rosy -red. The stalk should be fresh, firm and crisp, yet tender. The new small or medium stalks are usually more tender than larger ones. Here are two recipes for your rhubarb file from the'Consum- er Section kitchens. Both have a hint of the old-fashioned about them - delicious when served with thick fresh cream or ice cream. " Deep Dish Rhubarb Pie "A quick and easy dessert to top off any family meal" 5 cups rhubarb, cut in f- inch pieces 11 cups sugar . 6 tablespoons flour 1 teaspoon .salt Pastry for one -crust pie. - Sprinkle rhubarb•`With sugar and let stand while preparing pastry' . Add,' combined flour and salt to rhubarb and ,m'ix thoroughly. Turn into .a deep six -cup baking. dish and cover with pastry. Make two or three slits in pastry to allow steam to escape. Bake in a hot oven (425° F.) until pastry is brown- ed and rhubarb is tender, 20 to 25 minutes. Makes six ings. Rhubarb Pinwheel Pudding "A tart and saucy pudding with a hint of spice" • 1 cup sifted all-purpose flour 2 teaspoons baking- powder 14' teaspoon salt 1/4 teaspoon pastry spice 'or cinnamon 2 tablespoons sugar - 3 tablespoons butter .1 egg, beaten 2 to 3 tablespoons milk 3 cups rhubarb. cut, in 14.- inch pieces 3'4 to 1 cup sugar . 1 tablespoon butter. Mix, flour, baking powder., salt', spice and the 2 table •spoons sugar. Cut in the three tablespoons • butter ..until mix- ture resembles coarse 'crumbs. Combine egg and milk. Add to dry ingredients and mix quick- ly until dough forms a soft ball. Turn on to floured board, knead lightly four to five times':' Roll out to a rectangle about 12 x 6 inches. Mix rhubarb and remaining sugar. 'Arrange half the rhu- barb in 'bottom pf a greased five -cup baking dish. Sprinkle remaining-rhubarb,over dough and roll up like a jelly roll, sealing edges. Cut roll across into one -inch slices and place slices cut side down on rhu- barb in dish. Dot with remain- ing butter. Bake in a hot'oven (400° F.) 'until browned, 20 to 25 minutes.
