recall the gifts presented to

way, that same rug still en-

Dear 'Torn iiielaTaiA:',o-
night your friends and neigh --
hers have gathered once 'more
in -the Forster's' Hall, Constance,
where 25 years ago a similar
gathering took place in 'honor
of Mr. and 'Mrs. Thomas Carter,.
Jikter_ltnown to most of us, as
Tont and Marg. Our honored
guests were married by the
,Rev. Hugh Jack, April 6,. 1940,
at 11 a.m:' in the Presbyterian
manse, Seaforth., Their atten-
dants Were the bride's good
friend, Miss Pearl Coleman,
now Mrs. Roy Dolmage, and
the bride's brother, Mr. Nelson
_McClure. ,
As recall, there was plenty
of snow 25 years ago. The
groom drove from Mr. and Mrs.
Orville Dale's farm in Hullett
Township with' horse and cut-
ter, the horse's tail being hand-
somely braided by Mr. Ken
Stewart. ,who was working on
the Dale farm at that time.
Tom picked his intended bride
up at the home of the bride's
parents, ,Mr. and Mrs..William
McCItu-e, lot 32, concession 4,
McKillop, and from there pro-
ceeded to the home of Mr. and
Mrs. Frank Coleman. Here the
jotumey to Seaforth continued
by -car, as the road was pass-
able from there to Seaforth.
,After the wedding ceremony,
the -party continued by car to
SS No. 1, Hullett School cor-
ner, where again it had to be
abandonedand finish the trip,
on feet to Mr. and Mrs. Or-
ville Dale's, where a sumptu-
ous wedding dinner was given.
As we approached the Dale
farm we were greeted by a
rare sight. It was Mr. Orville
Dale sitting on the veranda
turning the handle of the old-
fashioned ice cream freezer. Is
it any. wonder the ice cream
tasted so good!
To name just a few of -the
highlights ef Tom's courting
day* One being the cold win-
ter evenings he spent helping
Marg keep the rising bread
dough warm. As you may know
there was a large family of
McClures, six boys and three
girls, and bread was .baked at
least twice' every week. Also,
when Sunday came, the boys
made certain there was none
of the tasty layer cake left af-
ter the evening meal, so Marg
would not have cake to serve
for luneh. Perhaps' that is the
reason Tom sometimes got home
in time to have- lunch with
Francis and myself, 'who were
also keeping 'company at that
time. One night in particular,
we noticed Tom supposedly
reading the paper after return-
ing from his courting, but the
paper was upside down. What
being in love will do!
-Although- Tom and Mafg did'
riot have everything to begin
their Married loirrneY, but more
or less "startedv from scratch'!
