Clears Grants
Hensall Council met Monday
evening with all members pres-
ent. Douglas Mann was present
and requested a grant for the
Parks Board of $1,000, which
was granted, . .as also was a
grant of $75 -for the Faird
Board, Other grants approved
were: Recreation Committee,
$200, and Hensall Minor Ath-
letic Association, $50.
Robert • Rawcliffe presented
plans for additions to the Zur-
ich and Hensall public schools
and requested that, council pass
a motion to assume•their share
of the debentures, which was,
done.
' Several drains were mention=
ed which will be inspected by
the street committee. Council
adopted daylight saving time,
to start April 24th and end Oc-
tober 30th.
Clerk Earl Campbell was in-
structed to send the list of
-1964 arrears of taxes to county
clerk for collection. Council
instructed Robert Baker, Jr.,
the building inspector, to in-
spect a new building being
erected at General Coach.
Council agreed to purchase
a time clock for the fire alarm
and have a new line installed to
comply with Hydro regulations.
A grant of $10 was made to
the Huron County Historical
Society.

Funeral of W. J. Cook,
Funeral services for.. the late
William J. Cook, 77, of London,
who passed away on Monday at
Parkwood ' Hospital, London,
were held from the A. Millard
George funeral home on. Wed-
nesday, with burial in Wood-
land cemetery. Surviving are
his wife, the former Nellie
Priest McEwen, -formerly of
Hensall; three sons, two step-
sons, two daughters, one step. -
daughter and one brother.

ding anniversary Saturday, with

ing from California, Toronto,

UCW Hears Reports
The April meeting of Unit
Four of the Hensall UCW was
held on Thursday with an, at-
tendance of 29 members. Mrs.
W. B. Cross and Mrs. T. J. Sher-
ritt and their group were in
charge. Mrs. Cross presided for
the worship service. The devo-
tional was taken by Mrs. E.
Chipchase, reading from the
23rd' chapter of St. Luke, the
theme being Lent and Easter.
Mrs. Laird Mickle favored
with a piano solo. Mrs. Cross
spoke on Easter, leaving the
group with the thought that
Easter is a beacon of light,
bringin, hope, peace and love
to the world.
Mrs. George Armstrong pre-
sided for the business session.
Members were reminded of the
general meeting on April, 26,
and the, bale to be packed in
May. Comments on the Presby-
terial held at Seaforth were
given by Mrs. ti. F. Currie and
some of the ladies who attend-
ed. •
The annual meeting of Her-
sell Women's Institute will be
held in the Legion Hall Wed-
nesday evening, when reports
of standing committees will be
presented and the 1965-66 new
slate of officers will be install-
ed.
Hold Dessert Euchre
Amber Rebekah Lodge, Hen-
sall, sponsored a successful des-
sert euchre in their lodge hall
Wednesday afternoon which was
well attended, with members of
lodges from EXeter and Clinton'
present. Net proceeds were $40
and the winners were: first,
Mrs. 'Ruby Beaver, district de-
puty president, Exeter; second,
Mrs. Ed. Munn, Hensall; trav-
elling lone hands, Mrs. Harry
Horton: birthday closest to
that day, Mrs. R. A. Orr; oldest

Walton Community Hall Friday
evening with Donald McDonald
acting as chairman. The pro-
gram opened with "0 Canada,"
with Mrs. Wilbur Turnbull at

unit sang a chorus entitled,
"This Land is Your Land,"
with Glenna Houston as accom-
panist. Other numbers includ-

held a successful auction sale
Friday evening at the home of
Mrs. Haugh, when ladies from
Seaforth and Unit Three were
guests. Bidding was very brisk
on various articles, such as bak-
ing, aprons, china and many
other 'artieles. Mrs. Wilmer,
Broadfoot, Mrs. E. Sillery, Mrs
John Broadfoot and Mrs. Elgin
Thomson received the bids
Everything offered was sold
which realized $'75. The, ladies
of the unit served a dainty
lunch, and a social half-hour
was 'spent.

tients in South Huron Hospital',

Willing Weeders Meet
The first. meeting of the 4-H
Homemaking Club, the Walton
Willing Weeders, was held Sat-
urday, April 3, at the home .of
the assistant leader, -Mrs. Ger-
ald Watson. The meeting was
opened with "0 Canada."
The officers' were elected as
follows: President, Jean Roe;
vice-president, Marjanne Wild -
long; secretary,. Nellie Baan;
press secretary, Sherrill Craig.
It was decided that the cov-
ers of the record books would
he green with black lettering.
The mothers were in attendance
and purchasing of the girls'
seeds was planned,. The next
meeting will be held at the
home of. Joyce McNichol, on
Saturday, May 8th. .
Mrs. Watson led the discus,
sion, which' included where to
plant a garden and the selec-
tion of seeds. Lunch was serv-
ed and the .meeting adjourned.

son Mitchell and Mrs. Jan Van
Vliet, Jr., accompanied by Mrs.
R. Huether and Mrs. H. Brown,
sang, "Day is Dying in tfie
West." Mrs. 'Harold Bolger read
the Scripture lesson from Mat-
thew 28:1-12 and John 20:1-18,
after which Mrs. Allan McCall
commented on the passages.
Prayer was offered by Mrs. Roy
Williamson. The UCW choir
for the occasion sang an an-
them, "His Love is Wonderful
To Me," The hymn, "Sweet is
tire Sunlight After Rain," was
sung.
The offering was received by
Mrs. Wilbur Turnbull' and Mrs.
Harold McCallum and dedicat-
ed • with prayer by Miss Ethel
Dennis.
The guest speaker, Mrs. Geo.
Mitchell, Bluevale, was intro-

Situation in Selma, Alabama,"

The ,Constance CGIT girls
held their sixth annual mother
and daughter banquet •Tuesday
evening. Mary Buchanan, presi-
dent, acted as chairlady. Mrs.
Reg Lawson said Grace, after
which everyone toasted the
Queen. During the meal, Miss
Clare McGowan cut the anni-
versary cake.
Following the meal, Linda
Nott proposed a toast to the
mothers and Mrs. George Mc-
Ilwain replied. Mrs. Borden
Brown proposed a toast to the
daughters and Nancy Buchan-
an
uchanan replied. Mary Mcllwain mov-
ed a vote of thanks to the wait-
resses, Mrs. L. Lawson and Mrs.
K. Preszcator, and presented
them with • a gift on behalf of
the CGIT. Mary McIlwain fav-
ored with a solo, accompanied
by Glenyce Jewitt.
Janice Jewitt introduced the
guest speaker, Miss Clare Mc-
Gowan, Goderich, who spoke on
"Broader Friendship." Elaine
Brown thanked Miss McGowan
and presented her with a gift.
