Construttion in 20-19 Vote
ezz t s q na
the 'CI'depotin /Myth
Rejecting by a 20-19 'vote,
the request of two delegations
for decentralization of county
home facilities and also a pro-
posal by,. several councillors for
delay, ' Huron county council
approved a conunittee report
recommending "that a building
bylaw be passed at. this. seS•
sion, and that we proceed with
our building program at Hur-
onview."
The deputations were from
Exeter and Wingharn. areas.
Spokesmen emphasized the de-
sirability of aged people being
cared for in or near their home
localities, where relatives and
friends could visit them con-
veniently., Elmer Bell, Exeter,
predicted satellite homes in all
parts of' the county, because
of the need, and', said that in
the long run they would not
be more costly.'
"The present . prpposal," he
Aid, "is a, retrograde step that
we •may have to live, with for
a long time."
Referring to the Hurenview
committee's estimates of high-
er cost, Mayor De Witt 1Villler,
of Wirrgham, said: "We can-
not place a price -tag on the
senior citizens. Thess are the
people Who built this county
and 'our first consideration
should be thein welfare. If
you consider this first, you will
think very carefully of plae-
ing homes for them in the
areas in which they have lived
most of their lives."

ON DATING A 'CAR'
DEAR DORIS—My problem I
is that I have never been on
a real date with a boy. I am
16. I have had quite • a few
boy friends but none with cars.
What is the matter? In my
opinidn I am just as nice, and
I don't act half as bad as my
friends. They all get good boy
friends, but mine all look like
young kids not yet out of their
diapers.
No Dates
DEAR NO—Do you want a
boy or a car ride? When.,you
can begin seeing boys as peo-
ple who"need friendship, whe-
ther or not they have a car,
you'll be on the right track.

DEAR DORIS—A girl mar-
ried in good faith, only -to have
a girl come to the door a month
later announcing she'was the
wife of the girl's husband. He
owned' up. She was telling the

truth, so they separated, but
in the meantime naturally, she
had her name changed at work,
at the bank, apartment lease, on
insurance and other papers.
She finds it hard to tell her
employers all that happened, so
she has just gone on using her
married name, What should
she do about it? Can she leg-
ally use this name? She doesn't
intend to bring' any charges;
she just wants to, be absolutely
rid of him.

DEAR DISCOURAGED —
Sometimes parents think they
have to be protective about a
family Member 'who has been
in a mental hospital. If this
goes' too far it hinders, rather
than helps. ,
And it's .net just those who
have been ill who need encour-
agement to talk. Belittling any
person tends to -make him give
up even -trying, after a while.
Since you are now recovered
and working, .your best plan is
to get things to do outside your
home. Practise conversing and
.sharing the activities of a com-
munity club or Y.W. group. I'm
sending you my leaflet, "Tips
on Talking", which can help.
(Available • to other readers for
ten cents and a stamped, gelf
addressed envelope). •

DEAR DORIS—I consider my-
self fortunate to have a won-
,derful husband and three fine
children, but do have a yearn.
ing to develop' the part pf me
I left behind at school. Not
that' I have any intention of
making my family second to
any other interest now, but ra-
ther to develop something that
would fill my life when neces-
sary.
I love to learn for learning's
sake, but am especially inter-
ested in a course that would'
lead to a degree and eventually
a job if I should ever need one.
Mother Of Three
DEAR MOTHER — No one
apologizes these days for 'seek-
ing knol;v1edge._,You can help,,
not hind,er, your family, by
broadening your horizons.
Write to: (1) your nearest
university, for their calendar of
correspondence and extension
caurses; (2) the board of educa-
tion in your city, for the same;
and (3) your government head-
quarters for leaflets about adult
education, vocational training
and opportunities.
