Beavers Advance to
Ontario Semi -Finals
Seaforth Beavers advanced to
Ontario semi-finals by defeating
Lucan 4-1 in the seventh and
final game of the series Tues-
day evening, at the arena be-
fore 700 fans. Lucan had, pre-
viously tied the series at three
games each when they shut out
the Beavers 5 to 0 on Friday
night in Lucan,
-In the first° period Seaforth
opened the scoring at 5:15 on a
goal by Bill McLaughlin, assist-
• ed by Jack McLiwain and, Bob
Beuttenmiller, They went ahead
2 to 0 on a goal by Jack Mc-
Llwain, assisted by Larry Dale
at 7:42, and at 15:51 Ed. Dol -
mage scored from Ken Doig,
to snake the score 3 to 0. Lu -
can fought hard and only spec-
tacular play by Gar Baker, in
the Seaforth net', kept them off
the score sheet; The two teams
played a fast close -checking
game, only to have the goal
tenders turn -back good scoring

opportunities. Finally, in the
third period, at 13:30, Lucan
found the mark on a goal by
Jim Aldis. Lucan then put the
Pressure on. and Seaforth fought
hard to hold their lead. Prean
pulled their goalie with, a min-
ute to go, only to have Bill Mc-

Winthrop opened the scoring
at 1:25 of the. first period on a
goal by Ray Powell from Jim
Strong. H. Illman tied the
score for Monkton at 7:17. Ray
Powell from Leon Maloney and
Jim Strong . at 7:45 for Win-
throp, but H. Illman tied the
score again at 10:55. Frank
Malone; from Arthur Murray at
11:35, gave Winthrop the lead,'
but G. Smith knotted the count
once again at 14:07. Arthur
Murray from Frank Malone and
Don Moylan at 15:43 and Ar-
' thur Murray from Frank •Ma-
lone at 18:30, gave the War-
riors a 5-3 lead: •
In the second period, D. Ron-

1:14 and Arthur Murray from

throp to give the Warriors' a

The regular meeting of the
Barbara Kirkman Auxiliary of
First Church met Tuesday eve-
ning with Mrs. Dale Nixon,, the
president, in the chair. She
read an opening poem, "Who
Are You?" and also led in
prayer. Mrs. Elmer Rivers per-
formed the duties of the secre-
tary in the absence of Mrs. H.
Whyte. Mrs. R. Kerslake read
treasurer's report. An in-
vitation Was accepted to attend
the meeting at Northside Church
on March 30.
Mrs. Whyte and Mrs. Nixon
were .appointed to represent
the society at a meeting to be
called re a questionnaire. in
regard to the status of women
in the ,church attendance at
meetings. Mrs., J. E. Daley re-
ceived' the collection land Mrs.
Wallace Ross led in prayer.
Mrs., Keith Sharp, leader of
the group, then was in charge,
of eventa„. A panel of ladies,
dressed in old-time bonnets and
shawls," gave the story of the
WFMS and the WHMS from
the year 1864 until the present'
time. They were Mrs. W. A.
Wright, Mrs'.'' R. Kerslake and
Mrs. R. K. McFarlane, Mrs.
Sharp gave the resume of the
Barbara Kirkman Auxiliary
from the time of its beginning
in 1902, with Miss Kirkman as
the first president, until' the
present time. A hymn was sung
and the meeting closed. with

ROBERT J. MOORE
Robert. J. Moore died in
Queensway Hospital, Toronto,
on Monday, March 22. He was
a brother of Andrew Moore
and Harvey Moore, of $eaforth.
Funeral services will be held

It seems that right at the
moment almost every' club in
the school is' busy trying qo
raise money. First, the Glee
Club had a candy sale. Then
the GAA had a dance Friday
noon. Monday noon the Drama
Club had a dance, but here was
a difference, because Friday at
3:30, some of the members
were auctioned off. Susan Leone
hardt was bought •-by Barry
WMS Has.
Meeting
On Thursday the Presbyter-
ian WMS was held in the school
room of the church with 20
present. The • president, Mrs.
Francis Coleman, opened with
Call to Worship, followed by
Hymn 388. The Seripture les-
son was read' by Mrs. Hugh Mc-
Lachlan, taken from Psalm 72,
verses 1-18. Prayer was offered
by Nrs. Van Rooijan.
The group was ynable to at-
tend Belgrave 'thankoffering-
meeting en account of another
meeting the same day in the
church. ' On motion of. Mrs.
Butt and Mrs. -Helen McMil-•
lan, Rev. McFaulds was asked
to be guest speaker and he has
since accepted.
Miss Jessie. ,Fraser gave the'
treasurer's report and received
the offering. A: solo by Mrs:
Butt entitled, "Take Up Thy
Cross,” was sung, accompanied
by Mrs. McGregor.
Mrs. Helen McMillan, the
group leader, and several of
the members, took part in the
.third program of the study
book, "Through the Years in
Canada," Miss Jean Scott •gave
a reading on "Friendship", and
afterwards called Mrs. Ila Dor-
rance to the front and present-
ed her with a gift from the
members' of the former McKil-
lop Branch of WMS, of, which
she had been a faithful mem-
ber for so long. Mrs. Dorrance
thanked -the, society for their
gift ,and expressedt'her feelings
towards it. Mrs. Dorrance is
moving to Burlington to live.
. Hymn 649, -verses one,, and
O'o, "From Ocean Unto Ocean,"
was sung.

The Grade XIII students miss-

at the University of Waterloo.
We were treated to a guided
tour throughout the new chem-
istry and biology building,
learning a bit about ;everything
that takes place at these insti-
tutions of higher learning.
