On 50* Vliedding Occasion
Mr. and Mrs. Edward Scher-
barth, Sr., observed their 50th
wedding anniversary on Dec.
24, but celebrated Saturday ev-
ening, Dec. 26, at the Brodhag-
en and District Community Hall
with a dinner for :their immed-
iate
mmediate family, relatives and neigh-
bors, followed by a reception of
other friends and relatives of
the community. Mr. and Mrs.
Scherbarth are members of
St.., Peter's Lutheran Church,
and Mrs. Scherbarth is an ac-
tive member of the Lutheran
Church Women. Mr. Scherbarth
is a member of the Brodhagen
and District Chamber of Com-
merce, and both enjoy commun-
ity forums during the . winter
months. Mr. Scherbarth was a
member of the Brodhagen
Band.
The couple have a family of
two sons and three daughters:
Edward, -Jr., on the home farm,
RRR.1, Bornholm, and Ralph, of
Detroit, Mich.; Mrs. Lloyd (Vel-
ma) Prueter, RR 1, Bornholm;
Mrs. Dorothy Wolfe, RR 4, Mit-
chell, and Mrs. Ross (Marlene)
Townsend, Tavistock. There are
24 grandchildren and one great
grandchild.
Mr, and Mrs. Scherbarth farpa-
ed at lot 30, con. 10, Logan, un-
til their retirement in 1955 to
their present home in Brodhag-
en. ' They were married by the
Rev. H. Weigand, of St. Peter's
Lutheran Church. The attend-
ants were Mrs. Betty Kezler, of
Victoria, B•C•, and the 'late
Charles Scherbarth. • The honey-
moon was spent in Kitchener.
The weather was cold and
snowy that day 'in,1914•
The couple received many in-
diyidual gifts from their fam-
ilyand friends. They were
pleasantly surprised when her
sisters, Mrs. Keszler and -Mrs.
Emnia. Campbell, arrived from
Victoria, B.C,
The 'evening was spent in
playing progressive euchre with
the following winners: Mrs.
.Chris W. Leonhardt, Oscar
Young, Mrs. Dan Beuermann
and Chris Leonhardt.
Mrs. Edward Scherbarth, Jr.,
their daughter-in-law, read a
very appropriate address. Re-
freshments and a delicious lunch
were served by the lady caters.
Hold S.S. Party
The annual Sunday School
Christmas prograni was .held on
Christmas Eve at St. Peter's
Lutheran Church. The title was,
"How Great a Gift." The -junior
choir,. under the direction of
the organist, Mrs. Bert Vorsten-
bosch, presented about a half-
hour Christmas cantata, besides
providing the background mus-
ic for the Christmas pageant,
presented by the Sunday School
pupils. The junior choir, con-
sisting of about 30 pupils, all
wore a red carnation, a gift of
the organist. During the process
sional they carried decorated
Christmas candles.
Two large lighted Christmas
trees were in the chancel, do-
nated by Mr. and Mrs• Orland
Rohrer in memory of their
three children: Fred, Ronald
and Leona. Two lovely bouquets
of white chrysanthemums adorn-
ed the altar from the Sunday
School.
The organist was , presented
with a mohair sweater from the
choir members,• and after the
Sunday morning service she
was presented with a gift from
the congregation prior. to her
resignation the end of this year.
At the Christmas Day service,
two poinsetta'plants Were in the
chancel from the 'Beuermann-
Osborn wedding_ held at Beth-,
esda. United Church Saturday.
Mrs. Jack Keszler and, Mrs.
Emma Campbell, of Victoria,
B.C., are visiting their. sister,
Mrs. Edward' Scherbarth, and
Mr. Scherbarth and attended
the 50th wedding anniversary
celebration of the couple.
Mrs. •Louie Bennewies re-
turned home from Scott Mem-
orial Hospital, Seaforth, before
Christmas.
Mr. Herman Leonhardt un-
derwent an operation at Vic-
toria Hospital, London, on his
hand.

The Christmas. meeting of the
.General United Church Women
of Northside was held recently
with Unit 5 in charge.
Mrs.. 0. Oke opened the meet-
ing with a poem, "l right'Christ-
mas." The carol, "0 Come, All
Ye Faithful," was., sung and a
Christmas message read. The
Explorers, under the direction
of Mrs: G. ,Pullman and Mrs. J.
McLlwain, sang two Christmas
numbers. The -Christmas story,
from St. Luke was read by Mrs.
E, McCue Prayer was offered
by Mrs. M. Somers. The offering
was taken by Mrs. E. Riney and
Mrs. D. Whyte and dedicated
by Mrs. Oke. •Miss Nancy Ber-
ger, with several- members of
the Glee Club, sang several car-
ols.
Mrs. G. McKenzie conducted
the business when annual re-
ports were given, showing an-
other successful year. It was
decided to have the annual Val-
entine dinner on February 10.
Members were reminded that
the Presbyterial. will be held
at Northside on March 24.
Mrs. McKenzie declared the
chair vacant and called on Rev.
J. C. Britton to take over for
the election of officers. The new
slate of officers was presented''
by Mrs. D. Whyte and accepted
by the members. Mr. Britton
installed -the officers for 1965,
Mrs. McKenzie again presided
and expressed season's greet-
ings to all. With the singing of
another carol, the meeting dos-
ed and Mr. Britton pronounced
the benediction..

Robert Jackman, Detroit, and

Dr. J. W. Peck, predeceased
him in 1925..
Largely. attended public fun-
eral services were held from
the Bonthron Funeral Chapel,
Monday, conducted. by Rev. H.
F. Currie, who paid fitting tri-
bute to his life. Pallbearers
were Elgin McKinley, Clifford
Keys, Ron Peck, Doug Cook,
Russell Erratt and Harvey Keys•
Flowerbearers were grandsons
of the deceased: Ron Elliott,
Bruce Elliott,. Wayne Peck,
John Peck, Dale 'Peck and Lar-
ry Peck. Interment was in Bay-
field cemetery.
