A'COLUMBAN CWL Meets The December meeting .of the local council of the Catholic Women's League was held on Sunday afternoon in the vestry of the church with the presi- dent, Mrs. Maurice Melady, pre- siding. Routine reports were given. The following graduates from Grade 8 in the 1964 class were presented with pins: Mary Lou Murray, Geraldine Malone, Nel- lie Vogels, Maureen Ryan, Stephen Murray, Johri, Poland and Leo Cronin. A card -,party is planned on January 6th, and it was decid- ed to hold the annual pot -luck supper on February 171h. Rev. Father Coughlin was present and spoke on the litur- gy of the church. The mystery prize, donated' by Mrs. Len O'Rourke, was won by Mrs. Ray Murray. Mr. and Mrs• Leo Smith and Melody, Acton, with Mr. and Mrs. Albert Cronin. The couple will reside. in Noranda. - .• , NIDWS OF :CO .STANCE Name New Officers For Coming Year The UCW held their Christ- mas meeting in the school room of the church on Wednesday. Mrs. Lorne Lawson conducted the worship period and opened the meeting by a reading, "Love Came Down At Christmas." "0 Come, All Ye Faithful" was sung, followed by scriptures read from Luke, John, Mark, and II Corinthians, by the fol- lowing ladies: Mrs. Lorne Law- son, Mrs. Borden Brown, Mrs. Ken Preszcator, Mrs. Reg Law- son, Mrs. Frank Riley, Mrs. Wilmer Glousher, Mrs. Fred Buchanan. Mrs. Lorne Lawson led ..in prayer, followed by- the Lord's Prayer in unison. "Hark! the Herald Angels Sing" was sung. Mrs. Ross MacGregor led the discussion period on the Word and the Way. "As With .Glad- ness, Men of Old" was sung, and Mrs. Lawson closed the worship with prayer. Mrs. Don Buchanan, presi- dent, conducted the business. Roll call- was answered by 12 ladies and two visitors. The al- location for 196,5 was accepted, and reports were given from standing committees. Mrs• Ross. MacGregor moved a vote of thanks to the retiring presi- dent, Mrs. Buchanan, for her efforts during her two years. Mrs. D. Buchanan thanked all the ladies for standing behind her and lending her help when need. Mrs. William Jewitt and Mrs. George Mcllwain led in carol ‘singing. Mrs. Jack Medd and Mrs. Wilmer Glousher served' lunch. Officers for 1965 are: presi- dent, Mrs. Reg Lawson; first vice-president, Mrs. William J. Appoint Engineer Assistant , To meet the'... increasing de- mand for- engineering advice, appointments to the Engineer- ing Service of the Extension Branch of the Ontario Depart- ment of Agriculture have been announced. Donald Holmes, of Morris - burg, will assist G. S. Moggach, of Seaforth, Agricultural En- gineering Specialist for Huron and Perth Counties. He will concentrate on drainage sur- veys and drafting and twill be based in the Clinton office. "There has been an increas- ing demand for engineering services," said Deputy Minister Everett Biggs in making the announcement, "these additions to the staff, will enable the De- partment to expand services in meeting farm engineering re- quirements."
