Decorate Doorways At Xmas The ring of the doorbell, and the muffled tread of feet on the porch is a happy sound, for at Christmas is the time when we especially welcome friends and relatives. And what better way to express hospitality than in decorations for yourfront door? The front entrance of ,,,your home is the focal point of at- tention and should be the first part to be decorated in any pro- gressive plan to decorate, by stages, the exterior of your home. The traditional Christmas wreath hung on the front door will always be in styfle, for it is one of the most widely used symbols of Christmas hospital- ity. There are many ,new and interesting ways to use wreaths of various materials for your front door, but one of the most attractive is still the simple wreath of evergreen boughs with a bright Christmas red ribbon, hung on the centerline of the door, about three-quarters of the distance up. The whole effect can be enhanced greatly by mounting an outdoor flood- light where it can be trained on the doorway to enhance .its. architectural lines. • If purchasing a floodlight for this purpose, make sure it is weatherproof. Use floodlight kits that include a weatherproof 100 or 150 -watt lamp, a holder de- signed to permit either ground or raised mounting, and wea- ther proof cord and connectors. You can choose lamps in clear glass, or in blue, green, red, yellow, or pink, depending on the effect you wish to create. A more elaborate type of door" decoration might be created if you have a covered porch. In this case it is easy to place evergreen boughs under the cornice of the porch roof, and entwine them with strings of outdoor sparkle lights, to give a bright, gay , appearance, or the softer glow lights, for a quieter effect.. And if .you are lucky enough to have two ever- green trees flanking the porch steps, or your front door, they can conceal two floodlights, one on either side, that throw their beams upward to bathe the 'en- tire entrance area in an ipter- esting pattern of light and sha- dow. The trees could also be decorated with strings of out- door sparkle (which have a clear glass) or glow lights (which have an opaque glass) to 'add to he beauty of the doorway. ' Lighted candles are a lovely ddition to any doorway decor- tion as a symbol of the Christ- mas spirit. Candles can be eas-. ly made from sections of pipe, lastic or mailing tubes, etc,, nd wired with an •outdoor tring and a red sparkle light ulb for the "flame". A section. f plywood, cut to shape . and ainted can be mounted on ither side of the• doorway, to ake a simple frame of lighted andle. Don't forget that your home nd grounds will be viewed in he daytime as well as at night, o try to conceal as much as ossible the. floodlights, wires nd extension cords not intend - d for display. Christmas time is also a time or common sense in using lectricity outdoors. It is per- ectly safe, but some simple pre- autions will not detract one bit rom the pleasure of creating a eautiful decorative effect for 1 our home. Be sure that your trings and sockets are express - y for outdoor use. Sockets hould be all plastic, with plas- c clips to ensure a firm attach- ent to evergreen boughs and ther material. If exposed to recipitation, sockets should be ositioned „ so that the lights ill hang downwards' so that ater or snow won't collect in hem. Connections between rings should either be taped ith a waterproof tape, or hung such a way that water cannot eep in. Don't overload the electrical rcuits' of your house. If a use blows, replace it with a ew one of the same amperage, sually 15 amperes, and' reduce he load by disconnecting some f the appliances and lights in he house that are on the same ircuit: Never use substitute aterials for fuses.' Basement ✓ attic circuits are the best ources for outdoor lighting cir- uits, since they are not norm- lly in use as much as the liv- g areas of your home. Many ew homes have• a special ex- erior circuit installed . which rings convenient power to an utdoor Christmas display, sum- er lawn party decorations, and o operate power garden took '•rr'tgrneiew-r---wrwrirwearesierarrrwi sir • HAN DSQMI FASHIONS for the MIMS FOR THE MEN • • Ties $1.00 to $2.00 Socks $1.00 to $1.95 Tie and Sock Sets •••••• $2.95 Gloves,$1.25 to $4.95 Wool Plain Scaves $1.95 Cashmere Scarves ,$2.95 Dressing Gowns $13.95 Belts • • • • • • • • $1.00 and $2.00 Pyjamas $3.95 to $5.95 Sport Shirts $3.95 to $7.95 White Dress Shirts $3.95 to $5.95 Striped Dress Shirts, tab collar 5.95 Cuff Links . . $2.50 Tie Tacs •' • $1.50 Set of Cuff Links and Bar $3.95 White Linen 'Handkerchiefs 50c SWEATERS Pullovers and Cardigans • • $3.95 to $14.95 FOR THE BOYS -Sport and Dress T -Shirts . • • • $1.95 to $2.95 Sweaters -Pullovers or Cardigans $2.95 to $5.95 SOCKS , 69c to 89c Dress Gloves $1.00 to $2.95 Cowboy Belts . $1.00 BOYS' HOCKEY SWEATERS Leaf's, Canadien's, or Bruin's Socks Toques -$2.95 $1.69 98c BILL O!SHEA Men's Wear Phone 527-0995 Seaforth r:T` ..71I,.7iI.X1 wXI..Mi..,,I.+N.
