By JACK HOLLAND
Well, here we are again with
a few announcements and dates
to keep in mind.
For the executive, a meeting
on Thursday night, Oct. 1; for
all members, the regular month-
ly meeting on Thursday, Oct. 8.
The district meeting will be
held in 'Clinton on Oct..18, and
since it is.. so close to • home,
let's have a big representation
from -Seaforth. More details on
time • of departure, meeting
place, etc., will appear in this
column in the near future.
Still with Legion activities;
the. annual Hallowe'en Frolic
will be held on Oct. 30. Keep
this in mind, as this has al-
ways been a sell-out.
* * *•
At the zone meeting, held
last Sunday at Gorrie (Howick
Branch), Charles' Wood was ap-
pointed chairman of an essay
contest for the entire zone. All
schools will be contacted and
particulars laid down for .this
event. It will be an elimination
contest and the winners advanc-
ing right up to Provincial and
Dominion Command revel. This
is a bouquet for Charlie, who
has always been a dedicated
Legionnaire and a real worker
for branch activities. '
Thanks to all of you who so
kindly dropped a line con=
menting on the poem in this
column last week, so I have an-
other one here that is famous
throughout the • Western world,
and comes from the pen of the
immortal John McCrae, and the
title is, of course:
In Flanders Fields
In Flanders fields, the . poppies
blow,
Between the ' crosses, row on
row,
That mark our place, and in
the sky
The larks still bravely singing,
fly,
Scarce heard among the guns
below,
We are the Dead, short days
ago
We lived, felt down, saw sunset
glow,
Loved and were loved, and now
we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the
foe,
To you from falling hands we
r throw
The Torch, be yours to hold it
high,
If you break faith with us who
die,.
We shall not sleep, though pop-
pies grow
In Flanders fields.

sun; and in the morning, we
will remember them."
