JN W. Tho'n pson Marks Event
A trade which a son learned
with his father nearly 40 years
ago led to the establishment of
a Seaforth business which this
week marks. its 25th annivers-
ary.
John"W. Thompson was born
in Greenock ' Township, Bruce
County, and as a youth watched
his father, 'the late Neil Thomp-
son, as he carried on his trade
as harnessmaker and shoe re-
pairer. Soon he had progress-

A reception was held Satur-
day evening in 4urich Com-
munity Centre, honoring Mr.
and Mrs. Ross McBeath, newly-
weds. Donald Johnson read the
address, and Douglas McAsp
presented the couple with a
purse of money.
Mrs. Mabel Milner returned
to her home in Nova Scotia af-
ter spending a vacation with
her son and daughter-in-law,
Mr.' and Mrs. Tom Bourque.
Miss Dianne Switzer, of Clin-
ton, spent a month visiting her
uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs.
William McLachlan. Her sister,
Debra, visited a couple of days.
We are sorry to report- Mr.
Pearson, Charters is a patient
in Scott Memorial Hospital, Sea -
forth. He is wished- a speedy
recovery.
Mr. and Mrs. Bert Thomson
and family left Saturday . to
spend a few days in Parry
Sound with the former's sister
and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. '
David Moir, and Adelle.
Miss Donelda Robinson re-
cently spent a day in London.
Mrs. John Gibson, of Wroxe-
ter, is visiting her son-in-law
pliques. She carried a cscade
of dark pink roses and ivy..
Maid of honor, Miss Sandra
Busche, sister of the groom, Ex-
eter, chose a costume of light.
green' peau de soie, controlled
skirt, matching - cummerbund,
and carried a bouquet of light
pink gladiolio,, Bridesmaids Mrs.
Merlin (Ann) MacLean, Exeter,
and Miss Catherine Vickers; of
Newmarket, were gowned iden-
tical to the maid of honor, and
carried bouquets of light pink
glads.
Neil Busche, Toronto, attend-
ed the groom, and Douglas
Busche, Kingston, and . Bruce
Horton, Hensall, ushered guests.
For the reception for 70
guests in the church parlors,
the bride's mother wore a rose
shantung dress with matching
accessories with corsage of pink
roses and white carnations. The
groom's mother chose a blue
figured dress with Iight beige
accessories, and -'wore a cor-
sage of yellow and white roses.
For their wedding trip to
Eastern Ontario the bride wore
a navy blue and white dress
with navy accessories, with
which she wore a corsage of
white gardenias. They will re-
side in London.
The bride is a graduate. of
Western University„ and the
groom is a graduate of Hamir-
ton Institute of Technology.
Guests were present from
London, St. Catharines, Sarnia,'
Kingston, Detroit, Port Dover,
Newmarket, Kitchener, Toron-
to, Chatham, Palmerston, Sea -
forth, Clintop, Exeter, ' Bruce -
field °and Hensall.

Hengel, brother of the bride,
officiated at Solemn Nuptial
High Mass in St. James' Roman
Catholic Church on' Saturday,
August 15; at 10 a.m., uniting,
in marriage Antonette Mary
Van den Hengel and John An-
drew Lane. The bride is the
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ger-
ald Van den Hengel, of. RR 5,
Seaforth, and Mr. and Mrs.
Mervin Lane, of RR 4, Seaforth,
are the parents of the groom.
Pink and white gladioli decor-
ated th, church.
Mrs. Alice Stiles played tra-
ditional wedding music and' ac-
companied Frank and D'Orlean
Sills when • they sang "Ave
Maria" and "Panis Angelicus."
Given in marriage by her
father, the bride wore a floor-
length gown of white silk or-
ganza over bridal taffeta,, fea-
turing a fitted bodice, lily -point
sleeves and lace appliques at
the scpop neckline and on the
front panel of the skirt. Her,
bouffant veil was held in place
by a crown of crystals and
pearls, and she carried a cas-
cade bouquet of ,pink Delight
roses, stephanotis and trailing
ivy. .
Miss Anne Van den Hengel,
London, sister of the bride, was
maid of honor, and Miss Mary
Frances Lane, sister of- the
groom, was bridesmaid. They
wore identical gowns of green
brocade with fitted bodice and
controlled skirt, and carried
cascade bouquets of pink car-
nations.
Mr. ' Bill Van , den Hengel,
brother of the bride, of Sarnia,
was groomsman, and the guests

The bride's mother received
guests at a dinner and recep-
tion held at the Canadian Le-
gion Hall; wearing a taupe bro-
cade sheath dress with brown
accessories. 'She was - assisted
by the mother . of the groom,
who wore a turquoise—.sheath
dress with white accessories.
For travelling to Western
Canada, the bride wore a beige
suit, green and beige accessor-
ies and a corsage of orange -
tinted mums. On1'tleir return
Mr. and Mrs. Lane will reside
in St. Thomas. •
Guests were - present from
Stratford, Quebec, Ottawa, Hol-
land, Burlington, London, Sar-
nia, St. Thomas, Seaforth, May -
moth and Wallaceburg.
BUSCHE HORTON

A lovely •wedding of wide in-
terest was solemnized in Hen-
sall United Church, Saturday,
August 22, at 3 p.m., when Rev.
Harold F. Currie united in mar-
riage Emily Jane Horton, daugh-
ter of Mr. and Mrs. R. B. Hor,
ton, of Hensall, and Alan
Charles Biithe, son of Mr. and
Mrs. G. M. Busche, Exeter.
Mrs. John Turkheim, Zurich,
provided traditional wedding
music and accompanied the
soloist, Miss Jean Henderson,
of Hensall, who sang "The
Lord's Prayer" and "The Wed-
ding; Prayer."
Given in marriage by her
father, the bride looked stun-
ning in her floor -length wedding
gown of white French peau de
soie. The bodice was highlight-
ed by a shallow scooped neck-
line and long lilypoint sleeves..
Elegance was portrayed in the
gently controlled bell skirt fall-
ing from—a princess waist. The
most delicate Guipure lace en-
hanced an empire cut. The main
center of attention was focused
on the delicate sweep train cas-
cading from an empire back
froth a tailored bow. To 'com-
plete her bridal outfit, the bride
wore a French pure silk illu-
sion fingertip veil, caught up by
a semi -pillbox headpiece, also
touched with Guipure lace" ap-

go out on his own. In 1930 he
opened a business in Blyth,
Deciding to move to a larger
centre, Mr. Thompson, in 1939,
purchased the business of
James Barry in Seaforth. It is
the 25th anniversary .of that
purchase that is being observ-
ed this week.
In 1941 Mr. Thompson pur-
chased the large building in
which his shop was located, and
six years later rebuilt the up -

Mrs. R. Torrance, Mrs. Ber-
tha Brownlee and Miss Jean
Ivison visited a few days_ re-
cently with relatives in the
Muskoka area.
Mrs. Rex Thompson, of Bat-
tie Creek, Mich., is visiting her
brother, Mr, Pearson Charters,
and Mrs.. Charters and family.
Mr. and Mrs. Vivan Cooper,
accompanied by Miss M. White-
man, spent a day in Stratford
last week.
Mr. •and Mrs. Bob Flood and
family, of Woodstock, visited a
few days with Mr., and Mrs,
Howard Lemon and other
friends in the district.
Mr. Charlie Taylor, Stoney
Creek, was a Sunday visitor
with Mr. and Mrs. N. Long.
