Joan Isabel, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. William Rogerson, of
Seaforth, became the....bryide of.
Gregory K. McDonald, son of
Mr. and -Mrs. Donald McDonald,
of RCAF Station Clinton; in a
double -ring ceremony on July
17, at 11:30 a.m.
The bride wore a gown of
French .peau de soie, styled in
simple lines, featuring a cock-
tail length skirt, enhanced by a
floor -length overskirt, styled
with unpressed pleats sewed on
a small waistband which finish-
ed `with .a lover's knot .bow at
the back. A matching wedding
band of peau de soie held her
veil of French silk illusion. She
carried a bouquet of red roses.
her ensemble. The , groom's
mother chose a dress of pink
linen and polka dotted taffeta,
and wore white and pink ac-
cessories, and a corsage of
white carnations.
• For a wedding trip to various
Western Ontario points, . the
bride wore a rose ensemble,
with black accessories and a
white rosebud corsage. On their
return Mr. and Mrs. McDonald
will reside in Clinton.
Guests attended from Blyth,
Kippen, Clinton,Seaforth, King-
ston and Brucefield.
Miss Mildred Crich,. of Sea -
forth, as bridesmaid, wore an
off -the -shoulder blue chiffon ov-
er taffeta dress, styled with an
A-line skirt, featuring a bow at
the back of the waist. She car-
ried a bouquet of white carna-
tions.
The groomsman was Mr. Bri-
an McConnell, of RCAF Station
Clinton.
The bride's mother received
guests at the reception in Turn-
er's United Church parlors,
wearing a beige chiffon .over
flowered. taffeta dress with
beige accessories. A corsage of
yellow carnations completed

Hold Showers For
Saturday Bride
Complimenting Miss Carol
Varley, popular bride - elect,.
several showers were held in
her honor. At S.S. No. 9, neigh-
bors and friends presented het
with many useful, and lovely
gifts.
The program, under the di-
rection of Mrs. R. McLachlan
and Mrs. R. Consitt, consisted
of. a reading by Mrs. grerritt
Wynja; piano solos by Barbara
Gemmell and Janice Eyre; read-
ing by Mrs. W. Broadfoot; duet
by Bradley and Brenda, Finlay-
son; reading, Mrs. Art Finlay-
son, and contests.
Carol and , her mother were
then asked to come forward
and Mrs. 'Gerald Blaine read the
address to; Carol and several
younger girls brought the gifts
forward. Carol thanked all for
the lovely presents and invited
all- to her trousseau tea the
following Monday.
The Misses Gail Finlayson,
Mary Dearing and Lois Rath -
well were hostess at a shower
for Carol Varley, held at Miss
Finlayson's home in Harpur-
hey. A lively program was en-
joyed by all, and Gail Finlay-
son read the address to Carol,
and Mary and Lois presented
her with the • gifts. Carol gra-
ciously thanked all for the love-
ly presents, and a dainty lunch
was served.

Baskets of snapdragons and
•shasta daisies and candelabra
graced the altar of Northside
United Church, Seaforth, on
Saturday, July 18, at 4 o'clock,
when Carol Jean, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs., John E. Carter,,
RR 2, .Seaforth, became the
bride of Bruce Weldon, son of
Mr. and Mrs. John Hoelscher,
of Seaforth. The Rev. • J. C.
Britton officiated. Soloist, Miss
Margaret Hillen, of Walton,
sang "The Wedding Prayer"
and "0 Perfect Love."
Given in marriage by her
father, the bride chose a floor -
length gown of silk organza
over bridal satin, styled with a
scoop neckline and lilypoint
sleeves. The slim bodice was
trimmed with organza appliques
which also accented the bouffant
skirt of unpressed pleats.. An
appliquedcrown held her shoul-
der -length nylon illusion veil.
She carried a white Bible crest-
ed with pink roses and stream-
ers of pink 'rosebuds. •
'Mr. and Mrs. Peter .Hicknell
are home after spending a
month in Kirkland Lake with
their son-in-law and daughter,
Mr. ,and Mrs. C. J. O'Neill.
Miss Mary Malone, Windsor,
with Joseph Malone and fam-
ily.
Mr. and Mrs. George Sniith
and baby, Stratford, with Mr.
and Mrs. Frank Bowman.
Mrs. Joseph Connolly has re-
turned home from a trip to the
Western Provinces. She visited
her daughter, Sister St., Francis
de Sales in Edmonton. She al-
so attended the Calgary Stam-
pede.

with Mr. and Mrs. Frank Bow-
man and other relatives.

bearers were Allan Carter and
Kenneth McLean:
Following a dinner in • the
church parlors, a reception was
held at the bride's home. The
bride's mother received in a
figured aqua and`green organza.
over taffeta gown in sheath
style, featuring a boat neckline
'and three-quarter length sleeves
and matching, hat and gloves.
The groom's . mother chose a
mauve dress with contrasting
gold hat and gloves.
The bride was attended by
Mrs. Robert Dinsmore as ma-
tron of honor, and 'Miss Eliza-
beth Carter, sister of the bride,
and Miss Barbara Talbot, as
bridesmaids. They wore identi-
cal street -length dresses of
pink georgette over taffeta with
matching georgette headpieces
with short• white veil. They car-
ried bouquets of white carna-
tions.
The flower;girl, Miss Christine
Carter, and the junior brides-
maid, Miss Elaine Carter, don-
ned white georgette over taffeta
frocks with pink cummerbunds,
and carried, pink carnations.

For a wedding trip to Eastern
Canada and the States, the
bride travelled in a figured
pink sheath dress with match-
ing three-quarter, length coat
and shaded pink hat. A cor-
sage of white roses completed
her ensemble. Mr. and Mrs.
Hoelescher will live in Petrolia.
Guests were present from
London, Kitchener, Waterloo,
Elmira,. Stratford 'and Ripley..
Prior to her wedding the
bride was honored at a sur-
prise shower held atthe hone
of Mrs. R. MacGregor, RR 2,
Seaforth, July 7. As the bride
entered she was met by friends
and was seated on a decorated
chesterfield, accompanied by
the bride's mother and groom's
mother. •
During the evening she _re-
ceived gifts by breaking bal-
loons and following directions.
Many games were enjoyed
throughout the evening. Bar-
bara Talbot led the group in.
blind drawing, and Margaret
MacGregor read the .address to
the bride -elect. The bride made'
a fitting reply, and lunch was
served by Misses Barbara Tal-
bot, Mary MacGregor, Margaret
MacGregor, Glenyce and Janice
Jewitt and Mrs. Robert Dins-
more.
Mr. Robert Dinsmore, Sea -
forth, was groomsman, and the
guests were ushered by James'

on Saturday, July 18, Marjory.
Carol, daughter of Mr. and Mrs:'
George Varley, •RR 3, Kippen,
became the bride of John. Mal-
colm MacLean, son of Mr. arid
Mrs. J. E. MacLean, RR 3, Sea -
forth. The church was decorat-
ed with baskets of white glad-
ioli, blue mums and candelabra
and ferns. Rev. D. 0. Fry of-'
ficiated at the marriage, and
Miss Carol Brown, organist,
played traditional wedding mus-
is and accompanied the solo-
ist, Miss . Dorothy Parker, when
she sang "The Lord's Prayer"
and "0 Perfect Love."
Given in marriage by her
father, the bride chose a gown
of white nylon sheer over taf-
feta. The bodice was styled
with a scoop neckline, featur-
ing appliques of French lace
and sequins, and lily point
sleeves. Her controlled skirt.
was appliqued with fact% and
sequins and ended in a bustle
back, centred with a large rose
and bow. A tiarra •of crystals
and pearls held here silk illu-
sion veil, and she carried a
cascade of red roses with ivy
and stephanotis. .
Maid of honor was Miss Gail
Finlayson, of Seaforth,_ and the
bridesmaids were Miss, Lois
Rathwell, of Clinton, and Miss
Mary Deering, of Staffa. They
wore identical dresses- of pale
blue nylon sheer, featuring a
scoop neckline, cap sleeve and
an insertion of French lace ,at
the midriff. • The controlled
skirt had panels of French lace
at the back which were accent-
ed by two small bows . at the
waist. Matching shoes and
veiled pillbox hats .completed
their costumes. They carried
crescent-shaped bouquets of
feathered pink carnations.
Mr. Jim Forrest, Seaforth,
was best man, aid Mr. John
Varley, Seaforth, and Mr: Don-
ald Johnston, Kippen, were
ushers.
Following the ceremony a re-
ception was held in the church
parlors, which were decorated
with pink and white streamers,
and the head table was accent-
ed with a three-tier wedding
cake. -
The bride donned a blouson
sheath of pink rayon chiffon
over pink and white printed-
rayon
rintedrayon taffeta, with a matching
pink duster, white accessories
and a corsage of pink carna-
tions, for a wedding trip to
Northern Ontario. The •groom's
gift to the bride was a pearl
necklace and match earrings.
Mr. and Mrs. MacLean will re-
side in Seaforth. •
Guests were present from
Hamilton, Owen. Sound;' Hensall,
Seaforth, Clinton, Mitchell,
Goderich and Stratford.
Prior to her marriage, the
bride was honored at two
showers by her friends. A trous-
seau tea was held on Monday,
July 13. Mr. and Mrs. Allister
Broadfoot entertained at a din,
ner party for the bride and
groom • prior to their wedding.
The table was centred with a
lovely rose centrepiece with a
bride and groom. A birthday
cake was brought to the table
in honor of the -bride's . birth-
day.
RENNIE—OLDENBURG
The marriage took place in
Toronto, Tuesday, July 14, of
Ronald Rennie, of Toronto, to
Brigitte Oldenburg, also of To-
ronto. The groom is a son of
Mr. and Mrs. M. R. Rennie, of
Seaforth. Following a honey-
moon in Cape Cod, • Mr. and
Mrs. Rennie will reside in To-
ronto. .
Friends Of Bride
Hold Showers
On Saturday evening, July 11,
at the home of Mr. and Mrs.
Ernie Crich, Miss Mildred Crich.
of Seaforth and Miss Eleanor
Wright, of Kippen, were• host-
esses at a miscellaneous shower
for Miss Joan Rogerson, prior
to her marriage. She was the
recipient of many beautiful and
useful gifts: A dainty lunch
was s e r v e d by the host-
esses, assisted by Miss Elaine
Beattie, of Seaforth.
On July 8, Joan was honored
by her friends and relatives
with a shower at Turner's
Church. The platform was beau-
tifully decorated for the: occa-
sion. A delightful program was
conducted by Mrs. Bert Pepper
and" Mrs. Alex Townsend. An
address was read by Mrs. Alex
Townsend, and Joan was pre-
sented with many lovely gifts,
for which she gratefully replied.
A dainty buffet lunch was serv-
ed.
FUNERAL
MIS; ANNIE MAUD STIRLING
Miss Annie Maud Stirling, of
Bayfield, ' died Monday at her
home. A retired registered
nurse, Miss Stirling was decor-
ated with the Royal Red Cross
by King George V after serv-
ing four years overseas during
the First World War.
Survivors are: brother, Dav-
id A, "Sandy" of Goderich; sis-
ters, Mrs. John (Sadie) Craw-
ford, Pickford, Mich.; Mrs.
Herb e r t (Louella) Wallace,
Darcy, Sask.; Mrs. Hugh (Char-
lotte) McLaren, Port Elgin; Miss
Josephine Stirling, Bayfield.
The body was at the Ball and
Mutch funeral home, Clinton.
-A funeral' service was held at
the Bayfield United Church,
Wednesday, at 2 p.m. Burial
was in Bayfield cemetery.
