The Constance UCW held
their annual, open meeting in
the church on Wednesday... af-
ternoon with an attendance of
over 100 ladies from Walton,

and McKillop Branch of First
Presbyterian Church, Seaforth,
Mrs. William Jewitt presided
at the organ, and Mrs. Carman
Moon was guest soloist.

Mrs. Borden Brown gave a read-
ing, "Daughter of the Shep-
herd," and Mrs. W. L. Whyte,
introduced the guest speaker,
Mrs. H. K. Plant, of Brumfield.l
Mrs, Plant sspoke on "Unity and
Church Union," which was
formed 39 years ago pn June
10, 1925. Mrs. Dale thanked
the speaker and all those who
took part in the service and
those who helped in any other
way.
The offering Was received by
Mrs. George Hoggart and Mrs.
Ken Preszcator and dedicated.
The hymn, "Dear Lord ' and
Father of Mankind," was sung.
Mrs: Dale pronounced the bene-
diction.
The finance committee held a
successful bake sale and bazaar
at the close of the meeting.
Mr. and Mrs. Stacey Fergu-
son, of Forest, spent one day
recently with Mr. and Mrs. Wil-
bur Jewitt.
Mr. and Mrs. William Dale
attended the ex -warden's ban-
quet at Tiger Dunlop Inn Fri-
day evening.

MRS. PHEOBE WEBER, a patient. at Queensway Nursing
Home, Hensall, quietly celebrated her 95th birthday on Wed-
nesday. A life-long resident of Zurich until she came to the
nursing home in February, she was a seamstress most of
her life, and her favorite hobby was gardening. When health
permitted, she was an active worker in St. Peter's Lutheran
Church, Zurich. Her family includes one son, Morris, Zurich;
and two daughters, Mrs. Hugh Thiel, Zurich, and Mrs. Ger-
trude Daters, London. Her birthday was observed quietly.

The Mitchell Co-op held a
dance and social evening at the
Community Hall here on Fri-
day evening. Lorne Mueller's
orchestra played for dancing.
On Saturday evening a fare-
well party was held at the Com-
munity Hall for Mr. and Mrs.
William H. Bennewies, Sandra
and Eric, who are moving` to
Kitchener. They were present-
ed with two lawn chairs, pole
lights, mirror and a purse of
'money. Sandra and • Eric re-
ceived jewellery. Mrs. Ralph
Fischer read the address. Lorne
Mueller's orchestra provided
music for dancing, and lunch
was served.

Raises
$1,212
The million dollar objective
of the 1964 Easter Seal Cam-
paign -has been reached,accord:,
ing to Conn Smythe, treasurer
of the Ontario Society for Crip-
pled Children. At the same
time, W. D. Stephenson, chair-
man of the Easter Seal Cam-
paign in Seaforth and district,
said that the total raised here
was $1,212.50. This compares
favorably with receipts, last
year, he said.
The campaign here is spon-
sored by the •Seaforth Lions
Club.
Mr. Smythe •said credit for
the successful campaign results
is due to the many thousands
of volunteers in the community
service clubs such as Rotary,
Lions, Kiwanis, Kinsmen - and
others who joined together to
conduct the Easter Seal Cam-
paign in 230 centres in Ontario.
On behalf of these' volunteers,
he expressed thanks to the peo-
ple of Ontario for their confir-
mation of confidence in the
work of the Ontario Society for
Crippled Children, by their
generous and continued sup-
port,

pled Children,has developed a
program in rehabilitation serv-
ices for physically handicapped
children and the expansion of
responsibilities includes a serv-
ice program for the children
who have cystic fibrosis; more
direct financial assistance t'e the
23 rehabilitation and treatment
centres in Ontario; a stimulat-
ed program of research into
the causes of crippling and
methods of treatment, training
and education of physically
handicapped children; and add-
ed support for the training and
professional development of re-
habilitation workers to reduce
the present • shortage of quali-
fied personneh
Official said the achievement
of the campaign objective has
assured the continuance of the
Society's services for the more
than 16,000 crippled Children
in Ontario and guaranteed the
fulfilment of the development
program in rehabilitation sere
ices.

The June meeting of the'
Catholic Women's League of St.
Patrick's parish, Dublin, was
held Tuesday evening with 30
members in attendance. The
meeting opened with prayer by
the president, Mrs. Joseph Shea,
followed by a hymn in unison.
Roll call was taken with all the
executive present. Minutes of
the previous meeting 'and. cor-
respondence were read by Mrs.
Tom Butters, the 'secretary.
Mrs.- James Delaney gave the
treasurer's report.
Members were reminded of
the supper and garden party to
be held June 24. Mrs. Joseph
Shea gave a few of the high-
lights- of the Diocesan conven-
tion at Sarnia, and Mrs. Joseph
Ryan gave the detailed report
of each day's activities. - Mrs.
Shea moved a vote of .thanks
to- Mrs. Ryan.
A mystery prize, donated by
Mrs. Michael McLaughlin, was
won by. Mrs. Louis Bruxer. The
meeting was adjourned with. a
prayer and the national an-
them.

SFM, who is home from Cat
Island in the Bahamas, showed
his slides pf the different mis-
sions he takes care of there; al-
so gave an informative„ talk of
the island which consists most-
ly of colored people.
• Mrs. Tom Butters moved a
vote of thanks to Rev. Father
Stock, -and a social hour was
spent, with lunch being served
by the ladies in charge.
BEEF -DAIRY CLUB MEETS
The Beef and Dairy Cattle
Club will meet at the farm of
Cliff Henderson, south of Bruce -
field, on Tuesday. -

Pupils from: USS 1, Hibbert,
and; SS 1, Hibbert, with their
teacher Mrs. Ed.., Hocking;
mrs. I -vera Hamilton and Mr.
and rs. Charles Friend, en-
joyed a bus tour last Friday
and gained a fund 'of. informa-
tion as well.
The first stop was a Harris -
ton Fertilizers, where Bill Hock-
ing, formerly of this commun-
ity, was the host. After tour-
ing the plant they were treat-
ed to hot-dogs and pop; and
coffee for the grownups. Then
on' to Midland, where they
lunched at a park near the lake
with an Indian village nearby.
The Martyr's Shrine was the
highpoint of interest. Behind
the shrine are the Seven Sta-
tions of the Cross, and on the
brow of the hill where they
stand one 'can look over the
Wye River, where the priests
in the early days awaited new-
comers to the area. • •
Across the , highway is Fort
Ste. Marie, where the first can-
al of North America was lo-
cated. The visitors also saw
Father Braebuf's tomb. Priests
act as guides at the Shrine and
Fort, and tell \of the Huron In-
dians who lived there but are
now extinct. A museum was
also on the agenda for the day.
Mr. and. ,Mrs. Earl Barker,
Terry and Ray, and Mr. and
Mrs, Roy Hannon, David and
Susan were dinner guests of
their parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Lawrence Hannon, on Sunday
and celebrated Mrs.' Barker's
and Ray's birthdays.
Mrs. Vera Moore, who under-
went surgery in Toronto hospi-
tal recently, returned home on
Saturday feeling ,much better.

Dispense With Meetings
The UCW of Zion United
Church met at the home of
Mrs. Charles Roney for their
June meeting. Mrs. Robert
Roney opened ' the meeting
with prayer, followed by a
hymn, "For the Beauty of the
Earth." Scripture was ' taken
from Psalm 96 by Mrs. Ross
Pepper. Mrs. Gordon Aikens
gave a reading. The hymn, "0
Worship' the King" was sung,
after which a chapter from The
Word and the Way was read
by Mrs, Lloyd Barker. The min-
utes were read by thea secre-
tary, Mrs, Earl Barker. Roll call,
was answered by a household
hint. Business was conducted
by the president, Mrs. Lawrence
Barker. There will be no meet-
ings during July and August.
A poem was read by Mrs. Lorne
Aikens.
