Colleens Hold Meeting
The second meeting of the
Dublin Colleens was held at
the home of Mrs. Chas. Friend.
The group discussed plans for
a club party and decided to
have it on June 20, and to in-
vite the girls who did not take
this project but were members
in the club previously. Roll
call was taken, being: Name a
vegetable in your garden that
needs to be thinned.
Following roll call the girls
examined and discussed the
centrepiece that Mrs. Friend
displayed on her table. It was
an attractive arrangement of
iris and spirea. She spoke on
garden weeds and insects that
affect gardens and the quality
necessary in vegetables. Mrs:,
Friend then took the group to
her garden and gave a demon-
stration on how to transplant
vegetables started in the house.

which appeared last week, the

HOSPITAL
AUXILIARY
Fifty-one active and associa-
te': members of the ' Women's
Hospital 'Auxiliary enjoyed a
smorgasbord dinner at Monetta
Menard's at Grand Bend.
' During the business meeting,
conducted by Mrs. F. R. Cos-
ford, president, it was decided
to open the meeting in Sep-
tember with a pot -luck supper;
each member to bring a pro'
spective new member. Follow-
ing .. the treasurer's report, it
was'agreed to buy another bond.
The historian book which is
being compiled by' Mrs. John
Harvey and Mrs. A. McConney,
was displayed. Mrs. McConney,
who has been a faithful mem-
ber of the auxiliary, was pre-
sented with a parting gift. The
entertainment committee, con-
sisting of Miss Dorothy Parke,
Mrs. McConney and Mrs. K.
Etue, conducted novelty con-
tests, and court whist was play-
ed.
Prizes which had •been donat-
ed were given out during the
evening. Mrs. Art Wright was
the winner of a 'glass bowl,
which had been donated to the
auxiliary. The sum of $12.00'
was realized from the sale of
tickets.
Mrs. R. R. McKindsey report-
ed on the bridges and euchres
and said that over $500.00 had
been realized. The auxiliary
wishes to thank all who have
contributed so generously to
this project. The following
ladies have given recent dona-

ed their 60th wedding anniversary on Saturday when friends visited, them during the day

served at noon Saturday, and an open house followed during the afternoon and evening

200 'Friends Gather
F or Anniversary
Over 200 friends, neighbors
and relatives gathered in Lon-
desboro Hall on Wednesday ev-
ening to honor Mr. and Mrs.
Lorne Lawson on their twenty-
fifth wedding anniversary. The
evening was spent in dancing
to Clarence Petrie and His
Night Hawks from Stratford.
Mr. and Mrs. Lawson were
married in Egmondville United
Church parsonage by Rev. A.
W. Gardiner on June 3, 1939.
Mrs.'Lawson is the eldest daugh-
ter of Mr, and Mrs. Ephraim
Clarke, of Seaforth. Mr. Law-
son is the youngest son of the
late Mr. and Mrs. Robert Law-
son, of Hullett Township.
Guests were present from
Chatham, London, Hanover,
Kitchener, Zurich, Varna, Clin-
ton, Seaforth and Blyth.
Hold Shower •
Friends and neighbors held a
shower in the schoolroom of
the church on Friday evening,
June 5, to honor Miss Muriel
Dale, bride -elect of the month.
Mrs. William Jewitt asked Mur-
iel and her mother, Mrs. Verne
Dale, to come forward and were
seated in two decorated chairs.
Mrs. W. L. Whyte was in
charge of the program. Mrs.
Whyte gave a recipe on "Affec-
tion"; Miss Elaine Brown gave
a number on the melodiea;
readings were given by Mrs.
Lorne Lawson on ."Financial
Difficulties," and Mrs. Borden
Brown on "The Bride's Trous-
seau." Mrs. William Jewitt con-
ducted a couple of contests.
Mrs. Whyte read the 'address
and Mary Mcllwain, Janice
Jewitt and Mrs. Ken Hulley
presented Muriel - with some
lovely and useful gifts. Muriel
thanked everyone for the gifts -
and invited the' people present
to visit her home in Brampton.
Lunch was served and a social
hour spent. •

Exeter, who fell recently and
received slight injuries.

The June meeting of Unit
One of the UCW of Northside
United Church was held in the
church in the form of a pot-
luck supper. , Mrs. Wm. Camp-
bell was in the ch$air. Mrs. C.
Walden, for the 'v<lsitation com-
mittee, reported that nine home
calls had been made and seven
hospital.
Mrs. Ellis and Mrs. L. Hog-
Barth were in charge of the
worship service. The Scripture
lesson was given by Mrs. Frank
Roberton, and a prayer by Mrs.
E.' H. Close.–Mrs. Don Wood
sang "Jesus Loves Me," and the
meeting closed wth prayer. ,
