HURON FARM NEWS
Coos weather has slowed
growth of all crops. Some dam-
age has been caused by frost,
but not great. Corn planting is
almost completed. The major-
ity of the beans will be sown
this week.
Some cutting of hay has tak-
en. place; hay crop appears to
be quite good. Canning peas
are in blossom; 50 per cent of
canning corn has been sown.
Growth of sugar beets is very
slow.
WINCHELSEA
The Elimville UCW held their
meeting on Wednesday .after-
noon at the church. They en-
tertained Zion, Centralia and
Thames Road UCW societies to
a blossom tea. Mrs. (Rev.) Theo-
dore Elliott, of Kirkton, was
guest speaker.' Mrs. Wm. Lam-
port, of Thames Road, gave a
reading, and Mrs. Rose Mc-
Fals, of Centralia, sang a solo.
Mr. and Mrs. Newton Clarke
visited on Sunday with Mr.
and Mrs. Lorne Sholdice, of
London.
Mr. and Mrs. Colin, Gilflilan
and Barbara Ann • were dinner
guests on Wednesday evening
at the home of Mr. and Mrs.
Harvey Smith at Crediton.
Miss Ruth Horne, of Lion's
Head, spent the weekend with
Mr. and Mrs. Freeman Horne,

went surgery at St. Joseph's
Hospital, London, on Monday.

FUNERAL
THOMAS S. McLAUGHLIN,-
Thomas Stewart McLaughlin,
65, of Brussels, died in Wing-
ham and' District Hospital Mon-
day. He was a son of the late
Mr. and Mrs. Alex McLaughlin
and, was born on the farm in
Morris Township, where he liv-
ed all his life. He was not mar-
ried, and is survived by two sis-
ters, Mrs. Arthur (Irene) Mc-
Call, Walton, and Mrs. John
(Anne) Bruce, Seaforth.
The body; ,was at the D. A.
Rann funeral home, Brussels,
until Wednesday,. when Rev. W.
J. Morrison, of Melville Presby-
terian Church, officiated at the
funeral service at 2 p.m. Bur,
ial was in Brussels cemetery.

The UCW of Kippen United
Church are planning a ham and
strawberry supper June 19th.
The relatives and friends. of
Miss Lola McKay attended the
graduation exercises School of
Nursing, Stratford General Hos-
pital, held at the Festival ,The-
atre Saturday, May 30. They
then drove to the home of her
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Edward
McKay„ 10th concession, Tuck-
ersnmith, for dinner and recep-
tion.
Mrs. Robert Dalrymple, Bon-
nie and Betty, of Brucefield,
were Sunday visitors of 141tir. and
Mrs, . Edgar McBride and Shar-
on. .
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Mac-
Kay, Seaforth, and Oliver and
Margaret attended the gradua-
tion exercises of Miss Lela Mc-
Kay in Stratford on Saturday.

Kay and family attended gra-
duation exercises for Miss Lela
McKay, of Stratford General
Hospital, held at the Festival.
Theatre on Saturday afternoon.
They also attended a reception
held at the home of Mr. and
Mrs. Edward McKay, Kippen.
Mrs. Archie, Parsons was; a
winner of a quart of varnish
and some cosmetics at the Le-
gion penny sale Saturday eve-
ning in Hensall. Mrs. Edgar
McBride won a dry cleaning

The parishioners of"St. Janes'
Church, Seaforth, honored their
pastor, Rev. C. E. Sullivan,
Sunday afternoon in the audi-
torium of St. James' Schoolf on
the occasion of his 25th anni-
versary of his ordination.•
Those taking part in the pres-
entation of gifts on behalf the
parishioners were Mrs. Frank
Nigh, president of 'the Catholic
Women's League; Arnold Stin-
nissen, president of the Holy
Name Society; John' O'Brien,
program chairman for the Holy
Name Society, .read the address.
The gifts included a well-filled
purse, two-piece luggage set,
and a golf . cart. The school
children presented Father Sulli-
van with a spiritual bouquet
and a sick -call set, With Paul
Hoff and Linda. Chase. acting on
their behalf.
The address was as follows:
"Dear Father: May we surrotind
you for a few moments this
afternoon, Father, to honor you
on the occasion of your silver
jubilee which marks the com-
pletion of 25 years of faithful
service as a priest of God.
"During these years you have
labored zealously to serve your
Master faithfully, both in Lon-
don Diocese and in the Armed
Forces.
"For the past six years, we,
the parishioners of St. James'
parish, have been privileged to
have you as our Spiritual Fath-
er. Many of us, both young and
old, have experienced your
fatherly aid and interest in our
welfare, That God in His good-
ness may, give you many -years
in His field white with the har-
vest and bless them with abun-
dant fruit, is the prayer of each
and everyone of us here pres-
ent.
"We wish that at this tine
you would accept, through the
representatives of the men; wo-
men and children of the parish,
these gifts as souvenirs of this
happy day. -(Signed): The Par-
ishioners of St. James'."
Father, Sullivan was born in
Strathroy, where he received
his early education at the prim-
ary public school and Strathroy
Collegiate Institute. He attend-
ed St. Peter's Seminary, London,
and graduated with his B.A. in
1935 from the University of
Western Ontario. On June 3rd
he was ordained to the priest-
hood in St. Peter's Basilica by
the Most Reverend John T.
Kidd, DD, Bishop of London.
He was Senior_Chaplainin Cen-
tral Command of the. Canadian
Army; was assistant pastor at
St. Patrick's Church, Windsor,
in 1952, _and came to St.- James'
parish, Seaforth,, in 1960'
Following the presentation'
the children held a series of
sport events. This was follow-
ed by a picnic supper; which
was attended by Father Sulli-
van, Father Caruana, Kings-
bridge, and relatives of 'Father
Sullivan from Strathroy, who
attended the presentations.
Father Sullivan spoke briefly,
thanking all . his parishioners
and friends for their kind wish-
es and the number of gifts pre-
sented
to him.

Plans Bus Trip
Seaforth unit gf the Ontario
Farmers' Union has completed
arrangements for a bus trip to
Oshawa on June 8, so that Hur-
on members may take part in
a one -day membership meeting
called to clarify policy matters
regarding Farm Marketing and
Farm Marketing Boards.
- Mrs. T. B. Govenlock, of the
Seaforth branch, who is in
charge of arrangements, said it
was expected a large delega-
tion from Huron would be. pres-
ent.
