• Beginning this fall, Huron
County Councill will provide
$100 bursaries to six students
from the County who are at-
tending or plan to attend the
University of Waterloo.
The bursaries are for stu-
dents with good academic re-
cords who are in need of fi-
nancial assistance to enable
them to continue their studies
at the university level.
The bursary assistance for
the university was confirmed by
Warden Ralph Jewell this week.
"We are most pleased that
Huron County is taking this
leadership in helping deserving
students to finance their educa-
tion," said Dr,, J. G. Hagey,
President, University of Water-
loo. "During the past year
there were 38 students from
Huron County enrolled at the
University and we know there
will be several more this fall.
We are living in an age in
which the role of education has
taken on a new dimension. It
is the responsibility of all of
us to insure that every quali-
fied student is able to continue
his education."
Application for the new burs-
aries, which will be awarded
annually, are available at Hur-
on County secondary schools,
and from John G. Berry, Coun-
ty Clerk -Treasurer, Goderich;
James Kinkead, Inspector of
Public Schools, Goderich, and
A. P. Gordon, Registrar, Uni-
versity of Wate400, Waterloo.
' Of the 38 Huron County stu-
dents attending the University
of Waterloo last year,. 19 were
enrolled in engineering -,--11- -in
science and eight in arts. -

Miss Rosanna Margaret Wor-
den, daughter Qf Mr. Alvin War-
den, Staffa, and the late Mrs,
Worden, graduated from Strat-
ford General Hospital on SAW -
day, May 39th. She received
the Loving Cup, presented -for
school spirit and student lead-
ership.
Following graduation exercis-

Attend National conference
The National Conference of
Presbyterian IVien, which was
held at Huron College, London,
during the weekend, was at-
tended by Messrs. Mervin Dow
and Gerald Carey. This was the
second of five national confer;
ences to be held across Canada
during this year. The theme
was "No Other Gods," and the
speakers were Dr. Kenneth G.
McMillan, National Secretary of
the Canadian Bible Society, and
Rev. Basil E. Howell, of To-
ronto, •Controller of the Pres-
byterian Church. The purpose
of these conferences is to give
the- laymen -a- better--insight-in=
to Christianity.
Evening Auxiliary Meets
The May meeting of the 1Vlar-
ian Ritchie Evening, Auxiliary
was held in the church with 16
members and three visitors
present. Mrs. R. Laing presid-
ed and opened the meeting
with a poem. Mrs. Duncan Scott
was pianist. Mrs. Lloyd Miller
led in prayer and Scripture
reading and meditation were
taken by Mrs. Lorne Elliott.
Mrs. Cliff Miller and Mrs. G.
Carey sang a duet, "We Should
Be Willing."
Mrs. Harold Parsons gave as
her topic a history of Cromarty
Church. The roll call was an-
swered by naming "our first

who attended the 100th 'WMS
anniversary in Montreal, gave
a report of their experiences.
Miss Margaret Kennedy was the
speaker on three occasions, us-
ing as her topic, "The Invita-
tion", "The Challenge" and
"The Commands of Jesus."
Mrs. John Templeman gave
courtesy remarks, and ,the
meeting closed with the Miz-
pah benediction.
Mr. and 1VIrs. Donald Wallace
of Carlingford visited on Sun-
day with Mr. and Mrs. George
Wallace.
Mr. and Mrs. J. R Jefferson
visited on Sunday evening with
Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Dow.
Miss Sally Bingeman, Monk -
ton, spent the weekend with
Miss Barbara • Gardiner.
Mr. Otto Walker and Mr. Ken-

Mr. William Hamilton and Mr.

guests at the nurses' gradua-
tion exercises in Stratford on

For Visitor
• The May meeting of theaiur-
on County. Junior Farmers .was
held Wednesday night at the
Clinton Board Rooms. Since the
president, Marilyn Marshall, is
at present visiting the •United
Kingdom, Tom Cunningham act-
ed as chairman.
The roll call was answered
by 16 members. Morris have in-
formed the group that the Irish
delegate, Geoffrey Conn, will
be visiting in Huron County
from May 29 till June 12. Mr.
Conn will be staying at the
homes of Don Young and Mur-
ray Hoover.
Reports ywre given for the
various cniznittee meetings
which have been held. The
next meeting is to be held on
August 6th at Clinton Board
Rooms.
McKILLOP WMS
The McKillop WMS of First
Church held its May meeting
at the home of Mrs. Francis
Coleman on Thursday. The
president welcomed the mem-
bers and opened the meeting
with Hymn 592. A collection
taken for the allocation fund
•amounted to $18.50, and this
was increased to $25.00 by a
grant from the expense fund
on motion of Mrs. Helen Mc-
Millan and Miss Jean Scott.
An invitation ,was received
from the Constance group to
attend -their Spring Thankof-
fering on June 10. Mrs. James
Keys offered her home for the
June meeting, and it was de-
cided to have a bake sale that
afternoon.
Miss Jean Scott and Mrs.
Helen McMillan took over the
program in the absence .of Mrs.
A. Harrisop„.-It was opened
with Hymn 374; the Scripture
was taken from Matthew, V,
verses 13-16, ,chapter, 15 1-18,
and chapter. 18:1-20, read by
Mrs. Joe Hugill. Miss 'Jennie
Hogg gave the prayer. Mrs. J.
L. Bell gave an interesting re-
port from the Synodical held
in London in ApriL Mrs. Robt.
McMillan sang "In the Garden."
Mrs, McMillan had the topic on
"The Life of the PeSple in In-
dia," assisted by Mrs. J. L. Bell.
Miss Jean Scott thanked all
who took part.
