relief would be --forthcoming.
Discussions had also been held
with the minister concerning
permanent improvement of
roads in the area of the match,
and here too assistance was ex-
pected..
A member of the board of.
Scott Memorial Hospital op
which he represents the town-
ship, Mr. Dennis told of the
troubles facing the hospital
'through lack of space and con-
tinuing maintenance. He said
the campaign for funds was
nearing completion, with but
$25,000 to go, and that the'
Province had 'cleared plans. He
expected tenders to be called •
within two months.
He expressed thanks to all
who had assisted in the cam-
paign and who had contributed.
Allan Campbell, .a member of
last year's council,' was • not
present when called by the
chairman:
Full Time
Joseph' L. Ryan, a council
nominee, told the meeting •the
position of road superintendent
should be full time, and if elect-
ed he would see that action was
taken concerning the roads. Re-
ferring to changes in staff, he
said he felt that conditions had
not improved over the situa-
tion four years ago.
Jerry Doerr, a former . coun-
-i" sir, said he would not be a
candidate. Recalling events
three- years ago ' when he had
last stolid on a platform, Mr.
Doerr said it :had been stated
that roads. were bad, that taxes
would have to come down, but
this had not come about.
He was not concerned about
an' increase in taxes providing
value was received, but "we are
not getting value.".
42' Gravel Trucks
Ken Stewart, who also was
nominated for council, recalled
some of the difficulties council
had faced in 1963.
Additional gravel was "r'teces-
sary if roads were to with-
stand present-day loads' and
speeds. On one .afternoon 'he
had counted 42 different gravel
trpcks on township toads.
Referring to snowplowing, he
said he had hoped to compare
costs of blower with V -plows,
but it had not been possible to
obtain the 'information.
He reviewed the weed con-
trol program of last year and'
said costs totalled $1,527.19.
Mower time amounted to 728
hours at $2.10. per hour, or
$15.20 per mile, two sides.
- Increased provincial road
grants from 50% to • 60% in
the case of McKillop, would be"
a great help, he said.
Harold Dodds; also nominat-
ed for council, said he had not
madea decision.
Discussing SDHS matters,
Harvey _ Craig, the township
board, representative, gave de-
tails of operating problems and
costs;. R. T. Bolton, Huron re-
presentative on the board, re-'
ferred to crowded conditions in
the new vocational school.
Answering a question by
Jerry -Doerr as to whether costs
were down since pupils`taught
at SDHS were less, Mr: Bolton
said there were 'two less teach-
ers. He added that "salaries go

Two years later Otis introduced
