letter to the editor
Wingham resident looking for public
support at consultation meeting
Dear Editor,
If you don't speak up
for yourself, someone else
will make the decisions for
you.
Next Thursday, Sept. 29,
from 6-8 p.m., the Town of
Wingham is going to have a
'public consultation' on the
Environmental Assessment of
the dam with the engineers
making a special presentation
at7p.m.
This will be your ONE & ONLY
chance to voice your opinion
about the need to repair the
dam.
Initially, Sharon Chambers,
CAO for Wingham, stated at
the November 2015 council
meeting `To repair the dam
would cost $500,000, or to
remove it (decommission it)
the cost would be 1.1 million
dollars. However, what was
discussed at that council
meeting and what is being
proposed by the engineering
consultants, is vastly
different.
We would like your attend-
ance at this meeting to show
your support for the repair of
the dam.

Purple Grove News: Keeping busy at the fall fair and 2016 IPM
Purple Grove Women's Institute
Now wasn't that a wonderful
day to host a Fall Fair.
We are so thankful for the good
weather, good crowds and all
round good time. Recognition to
Brian Reid and his executive for
planning such a great event and
to all the volunteers who helped
out in so many ways. We appreci-
ate all your time and efforts.
Congratulations to Roy Collins
who celebrated his 80th birthday
last week. Family and friends
gathered at the Anglican Church
in Kinlough on Sept. 18 to wish
him well.
Elizabeth Kelly of New
Dundee visited with Mary Anne
Kukoly recently and also other
friends in the area. Mary Anne
was pleased to attend the bridal
shower for Sam MacKenzie on
Sunday afternoon in Kincardine.
She received many lovely gifts.
Congratulations to all the folks
with their Fall Fair displays. They
were great. Appreciation also to
the Horticultural Society folks
for the lovely flowers in the Vil-
lage. Sure love the flags painted
on the barn roof on the twelfth.
After the fair the John Farrell
family gathered at Joyce and
John's to wish their youngest
grandson John Timothy Leis a
happy first birthday. On Sunday
Karen, Leonard and Marsha Far-
rell were at Joyce and John's.
It was good to see Julianne,
Andrew and babe Geraink
House up from London; and
Ruthe and Hugh Duncan of
Bloomingdale back for the fair.
Helen Colwell of Red Deer
Alberta visited with the Colwell
cousins in the area and enjoyed
the Fall Fair.
Hope everyone that was able to
attend the IPM at Harriston this
week enjoyed themselves. Many
from our area were able to attend.
They were certainly blessed with
good weather. Those who were
able to see the Musical Ride
enjoyed it. We understand that
next year they will have an
incredibly busy year as they will
be going all across Canada for
Canada's 150th, instead of just
covering two provinces a year as
they normally do.
Family and friends celebrated
with a gathering at Amanda and
Joe Elliott's recently. Amanda
and Joe were married earlier this
year. Congratulations from all
the Purple Grovers.
Congratulations to the folks
that worked on the glossy maga-
zine The Back Forty, put out by
the Township of Huron -Kinloss.
Great to see some of our local
folks featured.
Ladies just a reminder that our
WI meeting has been rescheduled
to Tuesday October 4th in the
afternoon. The topic `Aging Grace-
fully' is affecting many of us.
LUCKNOW NEWS
Fall is finally upon us in the Lucknow area
Ruth Dobrensky
Fall is finally here and I laugh
at my city friends and relatives
who make comments like,
what's it like to live in a place
where nothing ever happens?
There are so many things
happening in our community
that you very often have to flip a
coin to decide which event you
are going to take in. We have our
fall fairs, local and not quite so
local, as well as the agricultural
fairs in the area. Then there are
all the church dinners that seem
to take place on a regular basis.
If fairs and food aren't your
cup of tea, there are plays in
places like Blyth, and the local
plays which will be playing at
our local theatre in December
along with all the community
carolfests, etc. If anyone were to
attempt to attend everything,
you'd never be home.
Happy 60th wedding anni-
versary to Joyce and Keith
Cranston who will be celebrat-
ing this coming weekend with
family and friends.
Best wishes and happy birth-
day to Jim Hackett who is cele-
brating his 80th birthday.
This past Sunday, the South
Kinloss Presbyterian Church
held their annual ham and
scalloped potato supper for an
appreciative crowd.
Congratulations to the Dan-
ceology dancers who will be
heading off to Germany in Octo-
ber to the World Dance Champi-
onships. I can't dance worth
beans, so its great to see so many
of our youth doing so well. We
wish them well and know that
they will have a great time and
come home crowned with glory.
No matter what happens, the
experience alone will be worth
the time and effort these girls put
into their dancing.
For all you sports fans out
there, as you may or may not
no, I'm a big baseball fan, so
I'm following the Jays closely
and although I'm not a big
hockey fan, I'm also watching
the world hockey results and so
far (at the time of writing) Can-
ada is doing very well.
By the way, although I myself
do not like the hot, humid
weather, we've had this sum-
mer, I was speaking to my
cousin Debbie from High River,
Alberta last week, and she said
they've had a lousy summer of
cold and sometimes snowy
weather and only got out camp-
ing for two days this summer.
Sympathies of the commu-
nity to the family of Violet
Cowan, 86, Clinton (formerly
Auburn and Goderich.
