Thanks Darryl. - TP `Little Girl with Big Heart and Short Hair' gives over $6,700 to Wingham hospital Deveena Devries of Wingham, along with her family raised $6,712 to benefit the Wingham & District Hospital's Cancer Clinic. On July 24, 2016, six-year-old Deveena, her mom Shelly, dad Ken and brother Darcy held a big barbecue fundraiser at the Wingham Fire Hall. The main event at the fund- raiser was when Deveena cut off 10 inches of her blonde hair. The hair itself was donated to an organization that makes wigs for childhood cancer patients and all the funds raised from the BBQ and donations by family and friends is going towards the Cancer Clinic at the Wingham & District Hospital. Deveena recently lost her grandfather and close neighbour to cancer, both received treat- ment at in Wingham's Cancer Clinic. It was that experience that inspired her to host the fun- draiser and do her part to beat cancer. "We have only ever heard great things about the Wingham Cancer Clinic and are over- whelmed by the support from the community for this cause that is close to our hearts," said Deveena's mom, Shelly Devries. The cancer clinic in Wingham is set to receive a significant expansion that will see it grow from six treatment chairs to nine, have its own private entrance and an outdoor patio area for patients to access. The donation from Deveena and the Devries family will make a big difference towards the expansion and furnishing the new department with the neces- sary equipment. "Everyone at the Wingham and District Hospital Founda- tion is grateful to be on the receiving end of so much gener- osity from someone so young," the foundation said in a media release. "Sincere thanks goes out the Deveena, her mom Shelly and the entire Devries family for being so thoughtful and com- munity minded. We can't wait to see what great things Deveena will accomplish in the future." The money was raised during the big barbecue fundraiser at the Wingham Fire Hall this summer. LUCKNOW NEWS Another successful fall fair weekend in Lucknow Ruth Dobrensky What a fall fair we had, every- thing was great, the parade, all the exhibits, the food, the family fun events, etc., etc. It's too bad we have to wait another year before we can have another. Congratulations to all those involved in the planning and organizing of this year's fair. If you haven't `faired' your- self out, there's always the Rip- ley Fair this weekend. Happy 90th birthday to Dor- othy Cruickshank who cele- brated with her family recently. Her actual big day was yesterday. Some members of the Luc - know Sepoy Ranees recently attended a Red Hat Fall Fling Luncheon at the Knights of Columbus Hall between Walk- erton and Mildmay. It was a wonderful event, although I may be prejudiced as I was on the planning committee, but it was great fun. The lunch was great and the entertainment was fantastic. We had a young man of 17 named Sebastian Ellis who can play the piano and sing with the best of them. Despite his youth, his show consisted mainly of the music of our youth and he absolutely mastered the style and music of Jerry Lee Lewis. When he performed an Elvis number, one lady went up on stage and wrapped her red scarf around his neck. We look forward to hearing about Sebas- tian in the future. This past Sunday, the Kings- bridge Centre had a fundraiser featuring the Schneider Male Chorus. The evening was full of wonderful music that enter- tained those in attendance and helped the Centre in its fund- raising efforts. Sympathies of the community to the families of: John Gamble, 79, Kincardine, and, Dr. Donald Munn, 88, Point Clark.
