It has been a busy exciting
summer for the Building
Bridges to our Future
Campaign.
If you are out on the play-
ground, please check out the
newest addition to our learn-
ing grounds and outdoor
classroom, the sitting circle.
It was completed this sum-
mer and looks wonderful.
We are also happy to
announce that we are suc-
cessfully moving forward
with the work for Phase 1 of
the Track and Sports Field.
This phase will see the acces-
sibility path complete, new
drainage and upgrades com-
pleted on the track and
sports field. We are thrilled
to announce that with the
generosity of our community
and the support of the Avon
Maitland School Board we
are able to complete this
work now for our schools
and surrounding communi-
ties. We recognize everyone
who helped us reach this
goal so quickly. A year ago it
was all just a dream on paper
and today it is a reality

Campaign Update
As for fundraising for the
whole campaign, over the
last 12 months we have
raised $105,000 of the
$110,000 needed to com-
plete phase 1 of the upgrades
and refurbishment to the F.E.
Madill Track and Sports
Fields. The Gala we hosted in
April 2016 brought in over
$60,000 for this project. The
Avon Maitland District
School Board has also con-
tributed $90,000 to this
phase as well.
The tenders have been
submitted and we await the
beginning of the work. This
phase will see new drainage,

Bruce Power Unit 7 reactor ends
long -run record of 487 consecutive days
For 487 consecutive days,
Bruce Power's Unit 7 has
been providing the people of
Ontario with 822 megawatts
of carbon -free electricity.
Last week the unit was
removed from service to begin
a planned maintenance out-
age that will see millions
invested into the unit as part
of Bruce Power's Asset Life
Management Program, which
will help the unit run safely
and reliably through to its
scheduled refurbishment.
"During the outage, thou-
sands of tasks will be com-
pleted by Bruce Power staff
as well as hundreds of con-
tractors who have been hired
from across the province for
their expertise in outage
activities," said Pierre Pilon,
senior vice president at
Bruce B. "Our outage pro-
grams create thousands of
jobs and inject hundreds of
millions of dollars annually
into our local and provincial
economies through the pro-
curement of materials, hir-
ing of skilled labour and
investing of private dollars
into publicly owned assets:'
Cobalt -60 will also be har-
vested from the reactor,
before being processed by
Nordion, which sterilizes 40
per cent of the world's single -
use medical devices, includ-
ing gloves, masks and stents.
While Cobalt -60 helps
keep the world's hospitals
safe for its most vulnerable
citizens, it also plays a role in
controlling the Zika Virus,
through a mosquito steriliza-
tion program which is now
underway in affected
countries.

saving role of Cobalt -60 at
