Lucknow Little Mudder finale goes out with smiles and rainbows Troy Patterson Editor The 4th and final Lucknow Little Mudder went out with rainbows and sunny skies at the soccer fields on Sept. 11, 2016. What started as an idea nearly five years ago, turned into an event that has raised over $20,000 over the last three years for the Lucknow Agricultural Society (LAS), with an estimated $7,000 expected from the 2016 event. "We really do put our heart into this event - it has meant so much to us to see our "crazy idea" actually develop into a real event that people travel from a distance to attend," said Race director Jackie Fischer in an e-mail. Fischer said the initial mudder was planned when the LAS was concerned about the future of the Luc - know Fair. It was struggling with declining support, a lack of volunteers and enthusiasm in supporting the annual fall fair, which was then entering its 150th year. `Drastic changes' were needed to save the fair, which saw the mudder make a splash in the coming years. "As I stood on my shaky legs and began to talk about the idea of hosting a mud run obstacle course, I real- ized just how crazy it sounded," she said. "Then, as I looked around the room, I noticed some enthusiastic nods in agreement from across the room - equally crazy people. With that, the Little Mudder Committee was formed:' The three people who nodded in agreement that day stuck it out with Fischer, and they have had some other committee members join them along the way.
