Huron -Kinloss sees spike in tourism across many events in 2016 Troy Patterson Editor Huron -Kinloss had a record year for tourism, with significant draws for the Point Clark Lighthouse, Music in the Fields and Ice Cream Trail. The Point Clark Light- house saw a staggering increase with 4,741 people visiting the National Historic Site this year, according to business and economic officer Taralyn Cronin. 'And that was just the paid tours of the lighthouse and museum," said Cronin. "There were hundreds more people just visitng the lighthouse." Cronin said though the lighthouse reopened after a half -decade of renovations last year, people may have just heard that the structure is reopen and is a place to visit again. "There was also good beach weather, which helped, and the children's program was well attended and brought the numbers up on Fridays," she said. Paid tours averaged about 70 per day in the final week leading up to Labour Day, which alone saw 135 people up the lighthouse. "That was pretty amazing, " she said. "They came from all over the world - Switzer- land, the Phillipines, Australia." CONTINUED > PAGE 2
