Scotiabank commits $20,000 to Wingham hospital foundation efforts
Scotiabank has pledged to
contribute $20,000 to the
Wingham & District Hospital
Foundation to support the
major redevelopment
project.
With branches in Goder-
ich and Listowel, Scotiabank
serves clients throughout
Huron County including
much of the Wingham &
District Hospital's service
area.
Their clients and staff are
the same people who will
benefit from the improve-
ments to the Hospital facility
and services.
Goderich branch manager
Jane Beaver and District VP
Andrew Smith visited the
Hospital to present their
$20,000 donation.
"Scotiabank believes in
helping communities bring
their passions to life and
supporting this unique
vision for healthcare at the
Wingham Hospital will make
all the surrounding commu-
nities a richer place for eve-
ryone to live," said Beaver.
WDH Foundation Treas-
urer Gord Baxter has worked
with Scotiabank on behalf of
the Foundation for many
years and is grateful to Bea-
ver and Smith for helping
make the donation a reality.
"We are pleased to count
Scotiabank among the many
financial institutions that
have been so generous to the
redevelopment fundraising
campaign;" he said.
All donations to the rede-
velopment project support
the expansion of six Hospital
departments including the
only chemotherapy clinic in
Huron and Bruce Counties,
upgrading of digital imaging
equipment and the creation
of a primary care clinic in the
new community healthcare
campus building located
adjacent to the Hospital.
The Wingham & District
Hospital is currently under-
going the first stages of a $17
million redevelopment.
With less than $6 million of
that cost coming from the
Ministry of Health and Long
Term Care, community con-
tributions, such as the
$20,000 donation from Scoti-
abank, can still make a signif-
icant difference to protecting
and promoting high quality
local healthcare. Currently,
work is nearing completion
on the new clinic in the com-
munity healthcare campus
and the new registration area
within the Hospital.
The Rehabilitation
Department has been
expanded and moved to the
front of the Hospital and is
now open and serving
patients.
Anyone interested in con-
tributing to the project is
encouraged to contact the
WDH Foundation office.

A tour of the local Mennonite community with Kinloss Kairshea Women's Institute
The Culture, Citizen-
ship and Community
meeting of the Kinloss
Kairshea Women's Institute
was held on Oct. 20 at June
Gilchrist's.
The group then went on to
discover the secrets of the
"Back Forty" a tour of the
Mennonite Community.
Our first stop was at the
"Apple Processing" on the
10th of Kinloss. The apples
are double washed and go
up elevators to either go into
apple juice, fresh cider,
apple sauce or can also be
made into apple butter. A
very ingenious operation
that makes just fabulous
products that they sell.
Next, we went to Levi
Martin's Custom Kitchens,
where he showed us how he
makes beautiful cabinets,
vanities, etc., etc. Levi has
some fabulous additions
incorporated into his cabi-
nets that we all would love
to have, and he also showed
us many new ideas at our
next stop, L.M. Woodwork in
Holyrood. Levi showed us
tables and chairs etc. that
are just so beautiful.
We then stopped at Junes

Meeting.
Erlma Jean Haldenby gave
the minutes and Gladys
Johnston, the financial
report and she also gave a
report on catering and the
fall fair. The roll call "What
did you learn today" was
answered by 10 members.
Joan Murray gave an
excellent report on the con-
vention she attended.
Then back in cars for our
next adventure, where we
were invited into Creek
Bank School to be enter-
tained by the whole school
singing some fabulous
songs. Next stop was Kinloss
Produce, where they sell all
kinds of produce, eggs,
cereal, plants etc., etc. They
gave us a demonstration on
making Puffed Wheat,
Puffed Rice etc., that we got
to sample, yum, yum. They
sell the cereal at many retail
outlets near and far.
After saying thank you
and goodbye we returned to
Junes and then home.
A fabulous day of learning
of what great industries we
have right in our
community.

The fifth meeting of the
Boot Scooten Crew
began on Oct. 14, 2016 at
Auburn Hall.
Loretta Higgins started the
meeting with the 4-H pledge
and Roll Call of introducing
their friend they brought to the
meeting.
Leader Eileen George lead
the group with a warm up
dance of the 'Bunny Hop:
Next, with a little bit of
instructions for the friends -
we did the popular- Chicken
dance. Loretta then lead the
group with the moves to 'Bush
Party' as her year end project.
She went through the steps -
moving from one step to the
next, the club did all four walls
before the music was added to
the dance. To change it up,
members learned the 'Conga',
with members taking turns to
lead. For the rest of the meet-
ing, the club practiced the
dances learned at previous
meetings; Electric Slide, Boot
Scoot Boogie, and Wagon
Wheel.
Loretta and Leader Meagan
Higgins did a great job remem-
bering all the steps! To finish,
the club practiced Mamma
Maria and Cotton Eyed Joe.
The club ended with a snack
break and the motto.
The next meeting will be on
Nov 4, with the Achievement Pro-
gram being held at the Auburn
Pumpkin Party on Oct. 29.
