Lucknow area runners on podium at Kincardine 7K Trail Challenge

The inaugural event in Sep-
tember brought in over $2,000
for the Kincardine to Inverhuron
Provincial Park Trail (KIPP Trail)
project, which is currently fund-
raising to see the 12km exten-
sion constructed in the near
future.
"I was hoping for at least 100
racers, but the turnout was way
better than we could have hoped
for," said organizer Victoria Zam-
bito. "There's been widespread
interest in the event."
Over 40 volunteers also helped
out by directing racers along the
route, manning water stations and
ensuring the race went smoothly.
Racers hailed from across Bruce,
Grey and Huron counties, as well
as Sarnia, London, Toronto, New-
market and as far away as
Connecticut.
Racers of all ages took part,
from as young as four, up to 73
years of age. Fathers ran with their
daughters, mothers with sons,
some runners brought their dogs
as sidekicks and one mother
walked with her baby on her
chest.
"I love the trail, I love the up
and down... it was awesome," said
racer Ray Luinstra to organizers
over the loudspeaker.
Racer Dave Trumble and many
others credited the volunteers for
taking the time paint many roots
and uneven surfaces along the
course, which he said has often
been a factor in injuries to himself
or others.
Prizes were donated by West
Shore Clothing Shoppe, along
with a flurry of other local
businesses.
Racers also expressed interest
in a second event in 2017.
