Community out in force to recognize 'Heart and Soul' of Brandon Metske

Lucknow's community spirit
celebrated the life of Brandon
Metske through the game he
loved this past weekend.
Upwards of 180 hockey play-
ers from 12 teams, plus family,
friends and members of the
community were out in for a
"day of fun" at the Brandon
Metske Memorial Tournament
on Oct. 15, 2015.
The event was organized in
honour of Brandon Metske,
an 11 -year-old Lucknow
player who passed away in a
farming incident on April 24,
2016.
His parents, Mike and Tina
Metske were on hand to greet
visitors, while Brandon's his
siblings, Colton, Andrew and
Megan took to the ice against
visiting teams, as well as
cheered on Brandon's team in
the final game.
Mike said they've had
incredible support from the
community since the accident,
and though it's been challeng-
ing the tight -knit community
has come through in so many
ways.
"We wanted to do some-
thing for Brandon," he said.
"He was very involved and
enjoyed hockey in general. We
wanted the day to be about
fun, not about winning and
losing."
Which he said is exactly
what Brandon liked about
hockey - playing the game,
"he didn't care whether he
won or lost."
