Hospital Race raises $6,700
for Wingham Hospital
Ten teams of two com-
peted in the Great Hospital
Race on Saturday, Oct. 1,
2016.
They all completed a 7km
fun run featuring five sporty,
goofy and puzzling chal-
lenges along the route.
The event is an annual
fundraiser for the Wingham
& District Hospital Founda-
tion and between the
pledges raised by partici-
pants and corporate spon-
sorship, the race raised over
$6,700 for new Hi -Lo beds at
the Hospital.
The Great Hospital Race is
an Amazing Race -type event
and the challenges this year
included the Oreo Face
Race, in which racers had to
eat an Oreo stuck to their
forehead without using their
hands, a paper house
construction challenge, the
Gross Food Gamble in which
racers had to roll a dice to
determine how many lem-
ons wedges, shots of pickle
juice, spoons of vegemite or
cups of clams they would
have to eat, a tennis serves
challenge, and the Frozen
Toes Marble Grab in which
racers had to retrieve mar-
bles from a pool of ice using
their feet.
A large part of $6,700
raised was thanks to top
pledge collectors Emily
Chester and Leanne Marks,
who raised over $1,600. They
were rewarded for their
efforts by being allowed to
select one other team to
receive a one minute delay at
the beginning of the race.
Defending champ Zak
Ashley successfully
defended his title by coming
in first once again with his
partner Rachel Bedard. Sec-
ond place went to Shannon
Lahay and Megan Duquette
and third place to Tyler Jutzi
and Chris Corbett. All of the
teams finished the race with
great enthusiasm.
The WDH Foundation
would like to recognize all
the participants, volunteers,
team donors, corporate
sponsors - with special rec-
ognition to long-time lead
sponsor Howick Mutual
Insurance - and product
donors, who helped make
the race happen. We
couldn't have done it with-
out you. It was a fun morn-
ing for a great cause.
