Wednesday, October 12, 2016 • Lucknow Sentinel 3 Purple Grove Women's Institute loses a good friend Purple Grove Women's Institute Our community has lost another old timer and a staunch supporter of Purple Grove. June Elliott passed away on Oct. 5. She will be missed by all her Purple Grove Women's Institute friends. Deepest sympathy to Nancy and Paul Greenwood, Stephen and Janice Elliott of Blind River, Joyce and John Farrell of Wingham area, and Shari and Ian Elliott of Horseshoe Valley and all of their families. Cheryl and Carmen, Holly and Kyle Bridge; Donna and Dennis, Courtney and Michael, Brandy and Kevin Bridge; Kathryn and Andrew Vogan attended the wedding of Tanya Coulthard to Chris Mathewson. Tanya is the daughter of the late LeRoy and Shirley Coulthard. After the wedding at Castle Loma in Toronto the couple are spending their honeymoon touring China and Japan. Marilyn and Don Reid; Kim, Larry, Zach and Tanner Reid; Sandra, Ed and Ryan Husk, Nicole and Michael Husk, Brianna Husk and Curtis, and Don's sister Wilda Parker of Dorchester all attended the wedding of Nikki and Collin Syvret in Woodstock on October lst. "That is excellent, I'm very impressed," said Ashley. "Certainly our strategy has always been to sell to the lit- tle guys for the same price as the big guys." The process to get a ice cream cone during the busy times is also a key to their success in the close -quar- ters, product -to -the -rafters store. Lucy said they needed at least two helpers this summer to ensure people lined up single file, paid while giving their cashiers the size of cone, then wait to tell the scoopers what kind of cone or cup of ice cream they'd like. This way, customers are served quickly, efficiently and shuffled out the door to take on their cones. "It was definitely a lot of work each night, washing out buckets and getting ready for the next day," she said. The couple mark their 50th wedding anniversary with a community gather- ing in Lucknow from 7 p.m. to midnight on Oct. 15. Nikki is the daughter of Jo and Brian Reid. Her brothers Bradley and Gregory were in attendance as well. Janet and Wayne Rhody returned home from their hol- iday north of Thunder Bay. Janet Rhody, Janet Nixon and Marilyn Reid attended the Grey -Bruce Area Wom- en's Institute Convention in Keady on Thursday Oct. 6. It was well attended. One topic of discussion was about the water companies extracting water from wells in the area. Congratulations to Josh West and Michelle Kahle- mier who were married in nwmo NUCLEAR WASTE MANAGEMENT ORGANIZATION Stratford on Oct. 1. Josh is the son of Irene (Logten- berg) and Joe West. Michele is the daughter of Pat and Peter Kahlemier of Kitch- ener. Congrats as well to Louise Miller and Bryce Poirier who were married at the home of the bride's par- ents Janice (Farrell) and George Miller at Thorndale also on October 1. The Sumac trees and some of the rest of the trees are changing their foliage. Wel- come Fall. We hope every- one had a Blessed and Happy Thanksgiving. The September meeting of SOCIETE DE GESTION DES DECHETS NUCLEAIRES the Purple Grove Women's Institute was held in the community centre. President Janet Rhody welcomed all members and guests. All answered the roll call about a gardening tip or dilemma. Mary Anne Kukoly read the Scriptures about harvest time. Convenor Marilyn Reid introduced her granddaugh- ter Nicole Reid. Nicole spoke about landscaping from her business experience. We appreciated her depth of knowledge and willingness to answer all the questions posed by the audience. APM is Canada's plan for the safe, long-term management of used nuclear fuel. The Nuclear Waste Management Organization (NWMO) is working collaboratively with Huron -Kinloss to consider the project and advance preliminary assessment studies. The Township of Huron -Kinloss is one of nine communities involved in this learning process. In the business part of the meeting we discussed the Ripley Fall Fair display. Christine Roberts and Fran Farrell are the members heading up the display. Mar- ilyn requested help for the booth in the arena for the afternoon. Items also dis- cussed was attendance at the Grey -Bruce Area Conven- tion and the Bruce County Rally in October. Janet thanked Hostess Janet Nixon and the lunch committee of Joyce Farrell and Fran Farrell. A great time of visiting and fellow- ship followed.
