Lucknow's HAWK Theatre takes to the stage with 'The Wizard of Oz' Troy Patterson Editor HAWK Theatre has brought together students from three schools for four colourful performances of The Wizard of Oz. The December Youth Pro- duction follows the Yellow Brick Road to the land of Oz with 27 local actors in this Young Performers' Edition of the classic story. Join Kansas farm girl Dorothy as she travels over the rainbow to dis- cover the magical power of home. Shows run Dec. 1-3, 2016 with shows at 7:30 p.m., along with a matinee on Dec. 4 at 2:30 p.m. at the Lucknow Town Hall Theatre. With the attractive set designed by local talent Ruth Montgomery, the audience will be trans- ported to the land of Oz along with Toto, the Lion, Scarecrow, Tin Man, Glinda, the Wicked Witch of West, the Wizard, plus a few Munchkins and Flying Monkeys! Jaden Symes, 10, of Luc - know, takes the star role as Dorothy in her third year on stage with HAWK Theatre. Symes said she loves wearing the dress, the danc- ing and "It's really nice that I can be the lead role this year and that they change the set every year," said Symes. "Our director is really nice and she's easy to work with." Director Mackenzie Car- ruthers said students like Symes have grown with HAWK since it was a small theatre production of about nine children, to what is now a fun and challenging experience for both the cast and crew of close to 30. "She was one of the origi- nal girls and ended up bring- ing her friends, who brought there friends and was really one of the co-founders of this program," Carruthers said. CONTINUED > PAGE 7
