Huron -Kinloss, Kincardine fly Community Living flag for month of May Darryl Coote Reporter In recognition of Commu- nity Living Month, both the Municipality of Kincardine and the Township of Huron - Kinloss will fly flags that brandish the nonprofit's logo for the month of May. Members of Community Living Kincardine & District, which assists those with developmental disabilities, presented the flags to the Municipality of Kincardine mayor Anne Eadie and Huron -Kinloss Mayor Mitch Twolan during their individ- ual municipal councils the first week of the month. A letter from the organiza- tion's executive director Andy Swan was sent to both councils asking that they participate in raising aware- ness, inspiring new opportu- nities for individuals with developmental disabilities and celebrating all people by flying its flag. "It is time to celebrate the abilities of all individuals and embrace the diversity of our community," said Cassandra Ritchie, Com- munity Living member, reading the letter May 2 before Kincardine council. "... We ask that the munici- pality join us in celebrating the achievements and con- tributions that citizens of all abilities make by proudly flying the Commu- nity Living flag." On the evening of May 11, Ontario communities will be participating in "Shine a Light," an event where build- ings throughout the prov- ince, including the CN Tower, will be lit in blue and green, the colours of Com- munity Living, to honour the month. To raise awareness and inspire others to be more inclusive to those with devel- opmental disabilities, the local Community Living branch will hold various events throughout the month, including perfor- mances by the Lighthouse Players and the Polar Bear Birthday Dip, which will occurred on May 7.
