Mary Anne Kukoly
Purple Grove News
President Janet Rhody opened
the meeting and then turned it over
to Convener Mary Anne Kukoly.
Mary Anne was pleased to intro-
duce Amy Farrell the Editor of the
Grey -Bruce Kids, Grey -Bruce Boom-
ers, and the newest magazine
Huron -Perth Boomers. We enjoyed
hearing about the beginnings of the
magazines and how they are put
together. Upon completion of her
presentation Mary Anne presented
Amy with a thank you. Amy also
answered all questions that the
members posed about this very suc-
cessful endeavour. We then took
time out to enjoy the great pies that
were provided by Diane Clifford and
Wilma Sutton.
After the minutes of the last meeting
and the treasurer's report, the roll call
was answered by members paying
their dues. The birthday ladies had
some fun readings and jokes. Marilyn
Reid gave the District Director's report
Our branch is responsible for

Lucknow Kinsmen transformation of `Graceland' underway

One idea the Kinsmen are bat-
ting about is installing solar -pow-
ered lamps along the trails
throughout the land, though that
decision will be made in the fall.
Right now they are concentrating
on having the land ready come

"We're cleaning it up and mak-
ing it nice and easier and less risky
to travel," he said, "and moving for-
ward there is potential" for it be
used in any assortment of ways.
The refurbishing of the area is
currently on hold due to the con-
struction company having other
responsibilities. However, Jakobsen
is confident it will be ready for
August.
The Kinsmen are hoping to cre-
ate a campground that is user
friendly and inviting, and they

On Thursday there was 12 thirsty
folks for the coffee hour and nine
came to play cards.
The Dungannon United Church
held a well attended ham supper.
The cost was $15 and there was
some ham left over. They also held
their anniversary service on Sun-
day. Three churches got together
for this event so there was a large
crowd.
On April 23 the Lions Club
cleaned up the roadsides and even
the lawns of a few people.
Tax submission time has come
and gone. Did you have good news
or bad? Now it is time for the census.
Watch for it in the mail.
The Ag. Hall grounds got their
spring clean up. Daffodils are bloom-
ing in gardens and along roadsides.
Sure do look pretty and give us hope
that the weather will warm up.
Spring must be here as lawns are get-
ting their first cut of the year.
Menno and Lefty Miller are selling
their fattened cattle at the Brussels
Sale Barn. Menno and Shag went to
the veal, sheep and goat sale on
Thursday.
There was family Bingo at the
Ag Hall but i haven't got any
reports on winners.

Lucknow News
Yesterday was Mother's Day and
many were able to celebrate with
their mothers. Here's a late happy
Mother's Day to all the mothers out
there.
This past weekend, the
McQuail's held their annual open
house at their Meeting Place
Organic Farm. They always have a
good crowd out to sample their
wonderful products, buy heirloom
plants and take in a horse drawn
wagon ride. I especially like to see
what great plants and preserves
they have to offer for sale.
A good reminder to all garden-
ers out there, including me, was
in last week's paper, go see your
doctor to update your tetanus
shot. If you take care of your
shots, they will take care of you
when you cut yourself on a rusty
piece of wire or tool.
Yard sale season is definitely
upon us. Lucknow held our town
wide sale recently, this past week-
end, Auburn held theirs,
Wingham is holding theirs in a
couple of weeks. If you couldn't
find that special treasure at one of
these and many others around
the area, you'll just have to keep
looking. But not to worry, there
will be lots of yard sales over the
summer and that treasure is out
there waiting for you to find it.
The Lucknow Horticultural Soci-
ety is holding their soup and sand-
wich fundraiser today at the Town
Hall. If you read this before you
have your lunch, you have until 1
p.m. to get to there and help them
out.
I noticed with great interest the
notice in last weeks paper about
the nuisance fine bylaw passed
recently for Huron -Kinloss. All
those caught will be fined $250, the
list of offences includes littering
and the charges could be higher if
repair costs are required to pay for
damages.
Sympathies of the community to
the families of: Willard Rickert, 92,
Goderich; and, John Streutker, 87,
Woodstock (father of Pastor Rita
Klein-Geltink).
