As part of the application for the monument, the organizing committee had to meet three conditions in order to be selected: 1. A prominent location within Huron County, 2. A link to youth and Remembrance, 3. Accessibility to the general public. The Huron County Museum is central to all of Huron County and provides a link to youth education as there numerous school field trips to the museum each year. In addition, the monu- ment will compliment exist- ing military exhibits both on the grounds and inside the museum. While we are awaiting final approval, we will continue our fundrais- ing initiatives. "We would like to see community engagement to have ordinary citizens, com- munity groups and youth support the monument and to help us build it with your donations," the Goderich Legion said in a media release. "This is a legacy project; the last monument constructed in Goderich was in 1924. Now, 92 years later, thousands continue to gather each year to remem- ber the contributions of our soldiers of past wars:' To make a donation, please make your cheque payable to the Royal Cana- dian Legion Branch 109, Huron County Afghanistan Community Monument. Our mailing address is 56 Kingston Street, Goderich, ON N7A 3K4. Please contact Paul Thorne at Branch 109 at 519-524- 9282 for more information.
