Thanks to all the participating businesses who are featuring the folks who have Down's Syn- drome. Their 'Lots of socks' are promoting World Down Syn- drome day on March 21st - Monday. Some of the Logtenberg fam- ily got together last Monday to celebrate Grandpa Derk's birth- day and some of the grandkids birthdays too at home in Goderich. Tuesday last week, Diane Clifford, Heather Finnie and Fran Farrell attended the Ontario Volunteer Service Award Ceremony held in Strat- ford, receiving their 25 and 20 year pins for volunteering with Purple Grove Community and Women's Institute. Heather also received a five-year pin for her work with the Air Cadets. On the trip down between Wal- ton and Monkton, they also saw another huge flock of trum- peter swans resting on their migration route. A total of 35 kids attended the Horticulture meeting on Wednesday at the complex in Ripley and made seed bombs for the garden this year and Gar- den Bingo. Thanks to the Con- venors Tryntje Eisen, Sandra MacDonald, and Heather New- man and to Susan Nichols who donated the clay for the bombs. Everyone had a great time - even the older kids. On Thursday, Geoff, Sandra, Thomas and Patrick Farrell hosted an open house of their renovations and installation of their Lely Robot milking system. A great turnout came out to see their new system and appreci- ated seeing the cows and calves and of course the treats were excellent too! Happy Birthday to Marilyn Reid last week too. The Reid family got together on Saturday evening to celebrate their March birthdays. Congratulations to the Kin- cardine Robotic Team with their robot 781! They received FIRST place at the Robotic competi- tion in Cleveland, Ohio last weekend. Holyrood Butchers, Kintail Flyers and Lucknow Lancers of the 60's,70's and 80's held a reunion hockey game in Luc - know on Saturday evening. It was hard to say who actually won that game - it's amazing how many of those "old" guys still skate! Great to see Ripley decked out with all the hockey sweaters. Go Wolves Go! There was lots of hockey in Ripley last week with end of season tournaments. Congratulations to all the coaches and players on another great season and to the Kincar- dine Bull Dogs on winning their series against Walkerton Hawks on Sunday. The training workshops for caregivers for the Rural Women's Health Support Initiative have been organized for Wed. June 1st at the Social Room in Ripley and June 2 at the Tara Legion. Our thoughts and prayers are with those who are under the weather, and travelling a lot over the Easter weekend! Easter greetings from Purple Grove and happy Spring, have a great week everyone! Two bronze for local students at Legion zone competition The Lucknow Legion recently named two bronze winners from the Royal Canadian Legion Zone Remembrance Day poster competition, after taking first locally. The students competed amongst 13 branches in the zone. Amanda King (Junior level) from Lucknow Central Public School got 3rd place for her Black & White poster at Zone. •, ...a. at.'..• , • .,tarFrom :...,:.rr Submitted Hannah McKinlay (Primary level) from Br000kside Public School got 3rd place for her Black & White poster at Zone. Writing contest open to youth across Grey -Bruce Young writers will have a chance to win prizes and have their work published as part of this year's Write @ Your Library creative writing contest. Students from Grey -Bruce, in grades 7 to 12, can submit their poems or short stories until May 6. The authors of winning entries will receive a cash prize and have their work included in the Write for 2016 anthol- ogy. First -place winners in each category will be pub- lished in Mosaic magazine. An awards ceremony with readings of the winning entries is set for June 3 at the Owen Sound & North Grey Union Public Library. Submissions are also being sought for the cover design of the 2016 anthology. The win- ning entry will receive $100.
