Music in the Fields sells 47% United Church
of tickets before bands named Women hear about
refugee program
Darryl Coote
Reporter
Representatives of Luc-
know's Music in the Fields
would suggest those wanting
to attend the country music
festival to get their tickets fast.
Without a single band
announced, the festival has
sold over 47 per cent of all its
tickets.
On March 15 the popular
festival released its concert
lineup online with award-win-
ning Lee Brice headlining.
Filling out the performance
card are Frankie Ballard, Dean
Brody, Tebey, Madeline Merlo,
Jason Blaine, The lovelocks
and Jojo Mason.
However, as of March 11,
four days before the big reveal,
almost half of its 7,400 tickets
had been sold.
"It's awesome. We're over
the moon," said festival co-
chair Ken Irwin. "[The produc-
ers of the show who lined up
the talent for the event] can't
believe we've sold almost half
the tickets before the reveal of
the bands"
Tickets have been steadily
selling since their were release
in December, and in Irwin's
estimation tickets won't be
around long following Tues-
day's announcement.
"I would not recommend
people to wait" to buy tickets,

he said.
Held the last weekend of
August for the past seven years,
the music festival has seen
steady growth since its 2009
inception by local service club
the Kinsmen of Lucknow and
District.
"People trust us to put on a
good event," he said as to how
they have seen continued
growth.
Last year they were sold out
of all their 7,000 tickets. The
400 tickets added this year

represent the incremental
growth the co-chairs want to
achieve and maintain.
The first festival in 2009 sold
1,500 tickets.
If we do have growth," Irwin
said, "it'll be small growth. At
the end of the day we want
everyone to have a good time,
make sure we can handle [it]"
Having intimate perfor-
mances is what sets them apart
from other festivals, he said.
"We're not the 20, 30, 40,000
people, and we want to keep it
that way," he said in a tele-
phone interview.
"It's small, intimate, yet
there's that big feel of a con-
cert," said Steve Neeb who
does promotion among other
responsibilities for the show.
On top of ticket sales they
are already sold out of their 450
"premium" campsites, which
are nearest to the festival site.
Last year in a move to
accommodate growth the
Kinsmen purchased a plot of
land 15 minutes away from
the festival grounds with
proceeds from 2015 to be
used as a camp ground.
It has been aptly named
"Graceland" in honour of
Grace, its previous owner.
Altogether 700 campsites of
the approximate 1,600 have
been booked.
"That's awesome, awe-
some," said Neeb with a
chuckle.
The event has become a
must -attend for some with
people coming from all over
Canada, co-chair Irwin said.
"We're almost a destination
spot. People know we are the
best weekend of August and
people plan to be here;' he said.

shared with UCW mem-
bers about the work done
by the Wingham and Dis-
trict Syrian Refugee Spon-
sorship program,
A group of community
people has been working
since last fall, meeting
once a month. They have
just found out that a Syr-
ian family of six, with four
children, will be coming
to Wingham. Several com-
mittees are working on the
needs of the family
including more fund rais-
ing. She was able to
answer many questions.
President Glenda Morri-
son opened the business
with a Lenten soliloquy.
Secretary Laura Steffler
read the minutes and
treasurer Diane
Henderson gave a report
and the 2016 budget. It
was decided that the UCW
will pay for the new stove
and fan for the manse.
Several letters of thanks
were read for visits, gifts
and memorial
remembrances.
Nimble Fingers have
given four comfort blan-
kets this year and will give
a quilt for the Refugee
family. They are gathering
items for draws at the Beef
Supper on March 20.
Other coming events
include Bruce Presbyterial
at Pine River on March 21
and the joint UCW meet-
ing on March 29.
There will be Turkey and
Beef pie making on April 4
and 5. Glenda closed the
meeting with prayer.
