The South Bruce Grey Hospital Committee (SBGHC) - Kincardine Auxil- iary will be auctioning off "Earth & Sky," a print of David Milne. Milne has long been rec- ognized as one of Canada's most original and influential artists. Born in Burgoyne, Bruce County in 1882, he spent his early years in New York and returned to Canada in 1929, settling near Ban- croft where he died in 1953. While observing the rug- ged northern landscape, Milne's paintings express spontaneity, freshness and clarity of vision that are hall- marks of his oeuvre. Education ministry pledges BGCDSB $830k to improve school conditions The Bruce -Grey Catholic District School Board (BGCDSB) has received con- firmation from the Ministry of Education that it will receive an additional $827,829 in school condition improvement and renewal funding over the next two years. According to a BGCDSB press release on July 19, 2016, the Ministry of Educa- tion announced earlier that week that it would commit an additional $1.1 billion in renewal funding to school boards over the next two years. The purpose of the funds is to repair and renew schools across the province, states the release. Mitzie Hunter, the Ontario minister of education, is quoted as saying: "Investing in our schools is one of the most important infrastruc- ture investments we can make for nearly 2 million students in Ontario. Our gov- ernment believes in better buildings for better learning and well-being. Making sure schools across the province are in a state of good repair is an essential part of support- ing student achievement. The investment announced today is great news for stu- dents, educators, communi- ties, and the economy:' For BGCDSB, the funding will include an additional $299,248 for school condition improvement and an addi- tional $88,703 for renewal funding for 2015-16, plus an additional $348,039 for school condition improvement and $91,839 for renewal funding for the 2016-17 school year. Jamie McIGnnon, the direc- tor of education for BCDSB, welcomes the additional funding, saying: "This supple- mental funding will be directed at addressing a back- log acklog of maintenance and upgrades to main- tainP�' necessary our schools as safe, healthy and productive learn- ing environments:'
