17th Dungannon Super Pull attracts an American audience

There were high-power
alcohol trucks, single-engine
and diesel -smoking modi-
fied tractors, pro -stock trac-
tors and more. You'd be hard
pressed to find more top-
quality iron at a refinery than
was present during the 17th
Dungannon Super Pull -
Truck and Tractor June 17,
2016.
About 4,000 people filled
the stands at the Dungannon
Fairgrounds for one of the
biggest horsepower sport
events in North America and
the largest in Huron County.
The grounds' twin tracks is
a novelty in Canada, and the
president of the Dungannon
Super Pull Steve Adams said
it is the only of its kind in
Ontario.
For those who attend the
event for the first always
leave thinking they'd just
seen a four-hour show in a
big city.
"If you've never been
there before, you're thinking
you're not in a little rural
town in Ontario, in Huron
County. It looks like one of
the big national shows,"
Adams said.
And it's not just an event
for locals, Adams said. Peo-
ple from all over Canada and
the United States attend.
He said they usually have
a crew of a half dozen come
up from Michigan, but this
year saw more people from
the States attending than
before, some coming from as
far as southern Kentucky.
"The guys from Kentucky
and Wisconsin can't believe
how efficient and organized
our venues are," he said.
"Our committee and volun-
teers just know what needs
done and stuff gets done."
Adams said the day was
"awesome" and an all-round
success with a full crowd, full
beer tents and a good show.
Belgrave's John Hardy,
who drives a New Holland
8770, won both his 8,000 and
9,000 lbs limited pro stock
classes. And Doug Ruston of
Carlow also won both his
classes with his IH 666. He
also won the Mike Pentland
memorial award. Pentland,
with Adams, came up with
the idea for the Dungannon
tractor pull. However, he
died in a snowmobile acci-
dent before he could see his
vision come to fruition.
Adams came in fourth
place in the 9,300 lbs super
farm class, and Dave Adams
from Lucknow and vice pres-
ident of the pull, also came
in fourth in his 10,000 lbs
super farm class.
"It was a good day for the
hometown boys they did
well at the home town show,"
the event's president,
Adams, said.
Though the amount of
money raised during the
event is not yet known,
Adams said it will be going
towards the Dungannon
Agricultural Society. He isn't
exactly sure yet what the
money will be used for as the
event's committee meets
soon to discuss the matter,
but in the past they have
donated to the local schools
and offered high school stu-
dents bursaries among other
community initiatives.
