Rural Roots concert series brings live music to the county
The Goderich Celtic Festival
has announced its 2016 Rural
Roots concert series, sup-
ported in 2016 by the County
of Huron Heritage Fund.
"The Rural Roots concert
series takes advantage of the
stellar talent that we're able to
bring to Goderich as a part of
the Celtic College and Celtic
Roots Festival, and presents
special concerts in historic
venues in smaller areas," said
artistic director, Kate John-
ston. "Many of the thousands
of visitors to the area during
Celtic week have the opportu-
nity to experience more of the
county, and the wonderful
communities in it."
Each Rural Roots concert
is a partnership between the
Celtic Roots Festival and a
local non-profit community
group. Proceeds from each
concert are split between the
two groups. All concerts are
$20 general admission seat-
ing, and begin at 7:30 p.m.

For lovers of fine English
harmony singing and dance
music - don't miss
Cupola:Ward! The fine talents
of Lucy Ward (2012 Horizon
Award winner at the BBC
Radio 2 Folk Awards) and
Cupola combine to form this
vibrant new collaboration of
music and song to thrill folk
club and festival audiences
alike. Cupola's fine instrumen-
tal arrangements and vocal
harmonies provide the perfect
backdrop for Ward's songs and
strong delivery - watch out for
this dynamic quartet!!

Featured artist: Siobhan
Miller Band (Scotland)
Siobhan Miller is regarded
as one the finest singers to
emerge from Scotland's
music scene over the last
decade. Her soulful and stir-
ring renewal of traditional
song has seen her win the
Scots Singer of the Year
award twice at the Scots Trad
Music Awards. She is also a
recipient of a "BBC Young
Folk Award" with Orkney's
Jeana Leslie with whom she
has released two greatly
received albums. Miller
began singing in public in
her early teens. Since then,
she has developed her style
through collaborations and
studies with many of Scot-
land's top musicians.

Kingsbridge Church
Featured artist: Bua (Ire-
land/USA)
Bua evokes the good times
that Irish traditional music so
often celebrates, playing in a
manner largely forgotten in
today's overly polished Irish
music world. With a precision
and intensity that is rarely
heard on this side of the Atlan-
tic, their sound stands out
among modern bands in the
genre by keeping the music
down the path of tradi-
tion while still being able to
raise the rafters with their
playing, charm with their
singing, and delight with their
contemporary energy. Based
in Chicago, Illinois—a long -
celebrated centre of Irish tra-
ditional music—Bua has
established itself individually
and as a group in the eyes and
ears of the traditional
community.
