to Wingham hospital campaign
The Power Workers' Union
Bruce Site Equity Committee
has pledged to donate $25,000
to the Wingham & District
Hospital Foundation's Our
Hospital, Our Future cam-
paign. The PWU believes eve-
ryone benefits from "sharing
our energy, knowledge and
experience to make our com-
munities happy, healthy and
safe places."
PWU member and Wing -
ham native Luke Lockridge
championed the Hospital pro-
ject because he feels the
upgrades being done to the
Hospital exemplifies the val-
ues of the PWU Charity Trust.
Members of the PWU met
with Campaign Chair Mark
Foxton at the Wingham & Dis-
trict Hospital to present their
$25,000 campaign contribu-
tion. Foxton thanked both
Lockridge and LarryAlderice
PWU Bruce Chair for the
Equity Committee for their
generosity and for recognizing
the widespread benefit of the
Hospital to everyone who
lives and works in the area
surrounding the Hospital.
Currently, the Our Hospital,
Our Future campaign has

raised an astonishing 90% of
the $4 million goal.
At this time all community
members are encouraged to
consider making a signifi-
cant personal gift to the
campaign before the end of
July, when the campaign
team anticipates active cam-
paigning will be wrapping
up. All donations will go
towards the expansion of six
Hospital departments,
including the only Chemo-
therapy clinic in Huron and
Bruce Counties,
replacement of digital imag-
ing equipment, and the crea-
tion of a community health-
care campus.
Contributions to the cam-
paign can be made at www.

tact the Foundation office.

Huron Health Unit gives tips on
preparing for summer weather
With the hot summer
weather upon us the
Huron County Health Unit
wants to remind residents
to be aware of hazards that
come with it.
Make sure to monitor the
weather forecast and plan
ahead for hot, sunny
weather. Young children,
babies and older adults are
most at risk of experiencing
illness such as heat exhaus-
tion or heat stroke.
Those without air condi-
tioning or people who
work or exercise outside
can also be at risk of
becoming overheated.
Donna Parsons, Public
Health Nurse at the Huron
County Health Unit, recom-
mends taking the following
actions to stay cool:
• Drink plenty of cool liq-
uids, especiallywater, before
feeling thirsty.
• Wear loose -fitting, light-
coloured clothing made of
breathable fabric.
• Take cool showers or
baths until you feel refreshed.
• Take a break from the
heat by spending a few
hours in a cool place.
• Block sun out by closing
awnings, curtains or blinds
during the day.
• Avoid sun exposure.
Shade yourself by wearing a
wide -brimmed, breathable
hat or using an umbrella
• Reschedule or plan out-
door activities during cooler
parts of the day.
• Never leave people or pets
in your care inside a parked
vehicle or in direct sunlight.
• Don't forget to apply lots
of sunscreen often. Use a
broad-spectrum UVA and
UVB of SPF 30 or higher.
• If you are using both sun-
screen and insect repellent,
apply sunscreen 20 minutes
before the insect repellent.
Always follow the manufac-
turer's directions when apply-
ing insect repellent
• Wear sunglasses with UV
protection.
