HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Lucknow Sentinel, 2016-07-13, Page 7Wingham to host McGlynn Memorial Crokinole Tournament August 6 Peter Carter Contributor When I was asked by the McGlynn Family to chair a crokinole tournament in memory of Michael McG- lynn a young man killed in a logging accident just four years ago I was indeed honoured. With the help of my wife Jo -Ann and enthusiastic crokinole players Clare and Cathy Kuepfer from Tara we have moved forward and hope to show others what a great "family" game crokinole can be as well as raising money for charity and such places as the Walkerton and Wingham Hospitals, Wes 4 Youth and needy families in our community. The event will take place at the Wescast Community Centre in Wingham on Sat. Aug. 6, 2016 starting at 2 p.m. sharp. This is your opportunity to compete in either the recrea- tional or competitive tour- ney but only 20 players will be accepted for each side. The Walkerton Knights of Columbus Council 2042 have donated $500 in sponsorship for this event which we are most grateful for. The entry fee is $26 per person. which includes a steak barbecue which is open to everyone beginning at 5 p.m. Three time recrea- tion "Worlds" Champion Robert Bonnett from Wing - ham, Tom Johnston, Rex Johnston and Ab Leitch are all "Worlds" champs from the Varna club will be flick- ing for the competitive cash prizes. Meanwhile on the recrea- tion side the 2016 recreation "Worlds" champ Cor Van- den Hoven from Seaforth as well as many Scone crokinole players including Al Carter, Janet Diebel, Doreen Sulkye with other entries coming in quickly.
