"This is really a privilege
and an honour for me to be
here and have this type of
activity named after me, espe-
cially coming after Paul Hen-
derson, who was a big factor
in my life growing up, a big
incentive for me," Farrish said,
adding that he hopes to
inspire other youth as he was
inspired by Henderson.
Luck Cranston, one of the
event's organizers and who
developed the idea to name
a section of the arena after
Farrish, said that 2016 con-
tains many milestones for
the New York Rangers' for-
mer second -round pick.
"This past June 1 was the
40th anniversary of when
Dave was drafted into the
NHL and this coming Aug. 1 is
his 60th birthday. So, keeping
all that in mind I thought let's
not just have a couple -hour
unveiling, let's have a whole
Dave Farrish Day and show
how much we appreciate
Dave," Cranston said.
The Dave Farrish Day con-
sisted of the unveiling cere-
mony as well as a silent auc-
tion where people bid on
signed hockey memorabilia,
many of which Farrish --
who is assistant coach with
the Colorado Avalanche --
donated such as signed
hockey sweaters and sticks
by NHL stars Jarome Iginla,
Nathan MacKinnon, Morgan
Rielly and others.
The money is all going
towards supporting Luc -
know youth hockey.
